Just wondering about the guys and gals who do pay to commute to netjets. I know that the company will get you a ticket home on the last day and you pay the difference. My question is how much do you typically have to pay for the difference if any? Also, do you buy roundtrips just in case you end up back at your base? I'd imagine a walkup fare gets pretty pricey. Also do you usually get the 7 and 7 schedule right away. I know that the reserve process is different than the airlines and usually goes more senior. I believe I could commute fairly resonable if I only have to buy one way tickets. Any info from you commuters would be great.

I commuted for 7 yrs SAT - DAL. I bought SWA tickets month in advance... for the trip to DAL. I paid the difference to get home or bought full fare tickets.

I learned the good deal hotels. It all cost about 6k to 10K per yr.

I got a lot of free Rapid Rewards passes and hotel points ... so my vacations were free.

I currently commute from SLC - LAX for Netjets.

Luckily, I still fly part time for a cargo 135, and have jumpseat bens on SWA, so getting to LA is not a problem for me. Once there, I either rent a car (33$ at Enterprise) and stay with friends or stay at the Hilton (100 bucks with the Netjets rate).

The last day thing is a complete pain in the ass. But it has worked out fairly OK overall. Most of the time your last day is as far away from your domicile as possible, I usually end up in HPN. So I have to find a ticket that's less than what the company paid for to SLC; which usually doesnt happen, so Ill fly to LAS, PHX or DEN on their dime and jumpseat the rest of the way. Last tour I ended up in LAS, and had to buy a ticket home on America West or whatever it is now, cost me an additional 160$ and got home at 3AM.

Remember that you can't buy your ticket home until the very last minute... who knows your last day schedule could change at any minute the night before, leaving you with a non-refundable ticket out of a city you won't be in the next day. So now you get to buy yourself another 400$ ticket home, but this one's not getting reimbursed. I haven't got burned on this yet...

Other than commuting the job is very good! Hopefully they'll let us B-scale commuters fly out of our home in the next couple months, but don't bet on it!

If your domicile is TEB, where would the company commercial you to... EWR? I would hope to avoid LGA and JFK.

But what am I worried about? I haven't even received an app yet!

Wether your working for that cargo group or Netjets, you will always be employed by a 135 carrier. Southwest would take you as a jumpseater regardless. They take all 135 carrier employees... including Netjets guys and gals.

Owner flights are 91k
Repos/admin/maint are 91
Marquis Card flights are 135

Could fly under all three parts in the same day.

Hi!

But ALL flying is done using -135 rules???

So how do you get past the TSA to talk to the Capt?

Hi!

U go through the aircrew line (in uniform is easier), show your ID to the TSA guys, and go through the line to the gate.

There are a few locations, like GRB/PNS where the local TSA says it's a national rule you need a gate pass. Most places don't require one.

No. Flying is done under the rules that apply to the flight being conducted. (e.g., if I'm flying a 91 or 91K flight at FL410, one of us doesn't have to be on oxygen -- under Part 135 at 410, one of us would.)

Exactly.

When you buy a SWA ticket instead of checking in at the key'osk'ie go to the counter. Ask for the jumpset outside of security. Then proceed through security. At the gate talk to them and let them know that you have a ticket if this doesn't work. They can print a boarding pass on the spot if it becomes necessary.

Hope that helped.

Not to hijack the posting but that whole issue with needing a boarding pass to get through security is complete bull. I've gotten burned on that multiple times cause you never know which airport is going to require one and which one's won't.

Let the origional post continue... :)

Will Southwest really take any 135 carriers, even without an agreement? My company had an agreement with them, then we got sold off to another 135 carrier without an agreement and I assumed that my freeride days were over? Any NetJet pilots doing this on a regular basis? What do you say to the captains who ask if you are on their list?

For what it's worth, I've heard of guys from NJA getting the ride and others getting rejected. It is definitely not the way you want to count on to get to and from work or to and from point A to B unless you have lots of time and the money to buy a ticket if you don't make it and you've got to get there.
