If I take the first domicle offered to get in quicker, and eventually want to make my way back to DAL. Does the aircraft I'm on have to be offered at DAL in order to transfer, or anytime a DAL slot opens regardless of A/C you can transfer based on senority?

To get back to DAL you either have to

1. Bid and get awarded a sic slot in your aircraft for DAL.
2. Swap with another sic in same fleet that wants to move out of DAL and into your domicile.
3. Bid and get awarded a pic slot for any aircraft that is for DAL.
4. Bid sic into another aircraft after two year seat lock is up.

Thats the simple version.

It has to be a/c and seat, but you can also swap with someone that is in the same a/c and seat (they call it "Aircraft Program Position") if you can find someone who wants to swap domiciles with you. You can do that at any time, just need to give the company a 30 day notice. Of course, you need to find someone who wants to swap first.

I interviewed this week and they are offering slots in all domiciles. Lots of LAX, DAL, and PBI. A few TEB and CMH. Derinda said CMH would not be offered after October for a while.

I still can't figure out the how and why....

I got the application accepted email in February.

did you you only want DAL? or is it taking about 6 months to land an interview period?

What eqiup did they have during your interview for choices?

I only wanted PBI. The equipment is mostly Excel, 400XP, and X for the rest of the year.

thanks for your help. I'll just set back and wait now. I want DAL, but willing to go else where till DAL opens.

Dumb question…

How far from your domicile do you have to reside?

Also, your per diem starts when you report for work at your domicile, even if you do not leave. In addition, if you live more that 50 miles from your domicile (if you live less than 50 miles you can request a hotel, and in my experience they will always get you one), they will put you in a hotel at the company's expense (and your per diem continues even if they don't use you). So no paying for a hotel anymore....

So if you live in DC and have an early report to TEB the next morning, the company will put you up for free the night prior?

No. The night before Day 1, you are on your own. I believe, if on Day 1, and you dont fly, they will put you up in a hotel for the night (the 50 mile rule might come into play here)...still on Day 1.

If you drive up on your day off prior to your work day, you are on your own.

If during your work week you overnight at your domicile, the company still puts you in the hotel.....doesnt send you home.

skiandsurf, that is correct...... if you live within 50 miles in most cases the company will still provide a hotel.....

if you live let's say ATL, and choose domicile columbus, or pbi, on your last day, will NJ airline to your domicile or can they airline you back "home" in atl?

Yes. I havent done this, but you have to tell the company where it is that you want to travel to (home in ATL or Hawaii), and you will have to pay the difference.

If you are a Domicile pilot. Odds are you will ferry the plane or bring pax to your domicile on your last day. you will then buy your own airline ticket home from the Domicile.

Thats how it was for me when I used DAL

Not sure how the other domiciles are, but I am LAX based and I (almost) always start and end with an airline flight.

Almost never. That's one more reason the domiciles are a stupid idea.

CMH here and I have only picked up an airplane once in the last 3 months and dropped one off once. It is possible to do what you are suggesting but I dont know how reliable it would be - you still have to get yourself to your domicle to start the tour somehow.

thanks guys i figured that
i was told that we would only be responsible to get to the domicile
but the source is definitly not trustworthy.....
I was going to ask Mrs. McKinstry, but I'm sure she got better things to do right now

Well it is true that you really are only responsible to get to the domicle and the compay will buy a you a ticket to fiji on your last day if thats where you wanted to go - you would just have to pay the difference in what it would cost to airline back to your domicle. If it were less then you wouldnt be out any moolah.

Just lucky I guess. It was airline ticket and hotel night before tour.... Then Hotel on last night of tour and airline ticket in the morning of first day off.Commuting can be expensive don't count on being able to airline to your home instead of ending up at your Domicile on last day.

Not to hi-jack, but I was wondering if you can hold out for a domicile, or is the offer of employment conditional on awarded base? For example, I really want CMH, but I'm offered TEB, can I "wait" for a CMH opening or am I just out of luck? Thanks for the help.
