Disagree. If it didn't involve alcohol, it probably isn't that big a deal. Want a real answer? Call your local OSO. Tell him your story and he can give you a steer. He is trying to meet his quotas so if it is a problem, he will try to help you find a way to get it off. I had a buddy who went through with me who was arrested under bogus circumstances for possession in high school and our OSO helped get it expunged. Of course that was back in the old Corps...
You guys are right, hopefully I can get this changed. I hope that it can be since it has been two years. A letter to the judge maybe a good thing since it seemed like the judge didn't think that what I did was very bad when he gave me my $50.00 fine.
one wheelie on my motorcycle... sold the d@mn bike because of it!
I may be wrong, but a wheelie on a bike? You have just the kind of attitude I'd want if I was teaching you BFM in an F-15. I'm sure the Navy has a similar outlook if they are trying to get you to put 40,000 pounds of F-18 on a moving carrier.
You need to be honest...eat crow...and say "I was young, dumb, etc" but I don't think the conviction (without alcohol) is that big of deal. If you were drunk, ran into somebody...well...that's a different animal.
Albie's right, just be honest about the whole thing. I know several pilots who had minor run-ins with the law before they signed up. It's a negative, but certainly not a disqualifier (as long as no one was hurt, no alcohol, etc).
One of the students at my base a few years ago got caught doing something like 125 in a 50 on his bike. Of course he had several one-way conversations with the squadron leadership, and got abused endlessly on assignment night, but other than that nothing really happened to him (at least on the military side of things... don't know what happened to his insurance rates).
Info from personal experience. Never heard of an aviation officer selection board for PLC. At least when I entered in '91 your packet was pushed through individually as PLC(G), (A), or (L), by your OSO for either OCS or OCC. Did worse things than a wheelie and had no problems getting accepted.
I know a board does convene, but I think it is different than the board William Barker is referring to. The PLC board meets in April. As far as this ticket goes, I wouldn't be real worried. It's just a glorified speeding ticket. We don't have that charge where I'm at. Here we call it exhibition of speed and it's a class B misdemenor. I've been charged with it twice myself. Never convicted though, so it's a none issue for me. The Marine PLC process includes two record checks. Traffic and non-traffic. Because this was not alcohol related it goes under traffic. I'm not even sure you need a waiver for that. Now I do need a waiver because I have a non traffic arrest on my record. Concealed weapon charge from '96 when I was 18. My OSO isn't concerned about this one, so I don't think you have much to worry about with your little ticket. According to my OSO over half the PLC applicants require a waiver for some police record crap.
Negligent driving. What an interesting term. It sounds like you were just out driving around and you got lost or something. That isn't a crime is it?
