Anyone knows how many airplanes at based at each base for TSA (STL and RIC)? Where are the J41s at, STL (only or most)? Are there any new planes being added to STL or RIC ?

How's living in both bases ??

Almost all of the J41s are in STL for AA. The J41 flying will be cut back in Nov. Only 2 or 3 of the ATRs will remain, all in STL.

Apparently, the new RJs for UAL will be ORD and IAD based.

I liked living in STL a lot. If U get a place close to the light rail, you don't need a car (at least if you're commuting). I've heard RIC is OK, but it's very difficult to commute to (obviously, depending on where U live).

There are more RJs in STL than in RIC. I think they are opening a new base in New York.

I liked working there.

ATPCLIFF I think you left TSA some time ago right? I have no idea where you could have received your information.

1) The J41 flying in STL in rumored to be cut back in Nov. It's also rumored that the company is looking at additional J41 flying out of PIT to take over for Allegany’s cuts.

2) The new UA rjs will be HUBed out of IAD and ORD. The pilot bases are still expected to be STL and RIC.

3) I believe STL has 10 AA rjs, RIC has 12 US rjs. Some US flying is done with STL pilots so the STL pilot base may be larger.

4) A New York base? Are you kidding me? If so that’s not nice. Ever since the JFK base closer there have been many of us pining for a return to NYC. I have heard nothing about this. If there were even a hint of this being true it would spread around the NYC diehards in 10 minutes. Not true, not going to happen.

To answer the original question about the j41's. There are 3 plus 1 spare in RIC and a total of 21 in STL. Some of those are parked but I don't know how many. Probably about 8.

There is definitely more commutability in STL. It's much bigger so there can be lots more trip trades. RIC is socially much tighter and very laid back. Things hum along smoothly and management leaves us alone.

P.S. FlyForFood_Not - That is exactly the kind of attitude we need more of in aviation. The whole concept of "will fly for food" must die. People who have this idea need to be slapped silly and taught about how important it is to maintain the integrity of pilot pay scales. Not just for their future but for the future of the many pilots to come.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out what city I'd rather live in if I got hired by TSA. Sound like STL is more fun...

what do you guys do in RIC for fun anyways? is there any places to go out/hang out around college crowd? (same to any STL guys)

Is there lots of appartments to rent, or mostly private houses?

ATPCLiff, vrb115 has a point. If you don't know the answer be quiet. I notice that you post a lot of misinformation.

TSA has at least 22 EMB-145s, only 9 are based out of RIC (even though 12 are used for U). There is talk of getting 5 more for STL this Fall and then more for both STL and RIC for the UA flying out of ORD and IAD. In general the lines are better on the jet in STL, however , with the launch of Pref-Bid it is hard to tell right now. It should take a few months for the Pref-Bid system to work out or not work at all. We'll see. Sorry, no base in NY , IAD, or ORD. STL seems to be the more commutable base but RIC is becoming the more livable base. It's a pretty nice city with a lot to do if you know where to look for it. It's not as big as STL and kind of has a College town feel to it. UVA and UR are a few of the schools there. It's also easy to get down to VA Beach which I think is a lot nicer than the mighty Mississippi. Lately there's been a lot of people buying houses in the RIC area. It all depends on what you like in a city.

7 ATR at STL. I don't know how many are flying. I think several of them are parked.

24 J41s mostly in STL. A handful are in RIC and they are talking about moving more to RIC to hub out of PIT. I don't know how they are going to do the PIT flying.

Back to the real question. Plenty of places to rent . Plenty of crash pads and houses to share. There is one bar with a hot tub on the deck that I thought was pretty cool. There are only a few sections of town that have a lot of clubs grouped together, otherwise you have to know where to go to find the action. There is a lot of golf in the RIC area. The season is quite long. It's also quite long for skiing and jetskiing. I remember jetskiing last November. The water was a bit cold on the ankles.
College crowd? You can try the Fan district which is next to UVA. Plenty of places to live and some very sexy crowds in the bars.
