We have a trip next month to Australia and need help with some handling information. We are trying to do most of the Handling on our own and was wondering if anyone has been to any of these cities. We are trying to pick some FBO's to go too or FBO's not to go too. We are going to

Cairns YACS
Hamilton Island YAHM
AYERS ROCK YAYE
SYDNEY YSSY
CANBERRA YSCB
MELBOURNE YMEN

.... and a lot of airports in between, unless you're taking delivery of a Gulfstream soon. :)
I don't really know your situation, but if you don't have experience in such matters, a lot can go wrong and you don't want to paint yourself in a corner. I personally wouldn't attempt a trip like that without a Company like UVair watching my back. Now if I was on vacation and on a "Lark", that would be different.:)

I thought this thread was going to be about helping you understand the movie with Nicole Kidman and Russel Crowe.

Second part of my comment is this- why on earth would you do this trip in a CJ3, you are going to have to stop in so many different countries that so many things can go wrong, just does not seem worth it, buy the boss a first class ticket on Quantas and call it a day.

Are you looking for FBO's or do you want information about the aerodrome operating info??

I just moved over from oz a few weeks ago and have flown into ayers rock, melbourne and sydney. Never into Canberra but i've done plenty of flying around that area.

Either way it's not a problem to get the information forwarded on, just let me know what you need.

I guess I should have said we are doing this in our G450 and not our CJ3. But any info would help us out alot.

Well that changes things quite a bit.

Gday flydaddy!

Things are going well over here. The story with work is the same though. i keep getting the "we like you but we have no jobs" response. Time to work on the golf swing i think :) Or learning how to make coffee.

How's things over your way?

I have flown in Australia, my advice to you, get UV Air to help you to make the trip as smooth as you can, you are going to need someone to help you get across the pond anyway. As far as FBO's, go to pprune, go to the Forum D & G Reporting point". and ask your questions there about FBO's etc. The Aussie's will start giving you the local info back. That sounds like a great flight, some great beer, great people.

I have only been to Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne in the last year or two..

All had good handling. Sydney and Melbourne had regular FBOs, Canberra just a handler and a customs building. The smaller of the Melbourne airports was very convenient (I believe that is YMEN, Essenden?)

Hotels:

Melbourne - The Westin - great hotel, great location

Canbera - Hyatt - noisy, not sure what else nearby..Canberra seemed pretty dead.

Sydney - Four Seasons - nice hotel, great location right in the Rocks.

Have fun! - great place to visit, just too damn far...

Spoken like an Aussie too ;)

At Melbourne there are 2 airports you can choose. Melbourne International, Tullamarine (YMML) or Essendon (YMEN). Essendon is where alot of the local corporate A/C are based. Go and check out the crown casino and even better to the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) for a football (australian football league) game. If you are there on a weekend you'll have a few to choose from. Ayers rock, If you can get on one of their ground day tours of the rock and caves. In Sydney, harbour cruise is the way to go as well as the opera house, bridge climb and the nightlife is fantastic in the city.

In Cairns go to hinterland aviation. nice place, good people and good food! The Irish bar in town os the spot to go on the weekends.

If you get the chance take a scenic flight with them or reefwatch over the barrier reef in the aerocommander, I used to work the company that own reefwatch :) good fun job.

Flydaddy: everyone's gotta have a hobby ;)
