Hi, I'm a private pilot with about 70 hours flight time, about to finish college looking to go to the airlines. When I started flight training I had no plan about what I would do after earning my PPL. Figured I'd know by the time I completed the ppl. Now I'm completely blank. I have no more money, the bastards at the flight school gave me a quote for around 5000k I ended up paying way more even after the low time it took me to pass the check ride. Parents payed 5000/year tuition for the state college and half for the PPL. I have an online business that gives me enough to cover 3 hours of rental per week.

At this rate, it's apparent that I'm going to have to take a loan to cover training at ATP. Can anybody give me advice on what to do, better ideas? How did you pay off the loan? Do students at these academies work an train at the same time or is it a full-time training? I don't want to go into debt especially since I'll be making about 1000 per month as an academy instructor and not much better as a F/O. I know some say stay at an FBO, it's cheaper but after what I went through at my FBO, like flying with half broken planes. Unless I'll be instrctuing, I'll never go through an Fbo to train again.

I don't know if this is flamebait or not, but I will give it a shot.
Get a job, and pay for your training as you go. You will enter the work force without the debt that can be all but impossible to pay off as a entry level pilot. Sure, it will take longer but in the long run you will be much happier and you will enjoy they flying more. As for not wanting to go to an FBO I can only tell you to get over it. There are good pilot mills and bad pilot mills, just like there are good FBOs and bad FBOs. Do your research and choose carefully.

or

You could just rob a bank, but a felony is hard to explain at an interview.

here's you advice

DONT

go to a mom and pops flight school and get your shizzil for way less and go to college at night or whatever to get a degree in basket weaving.

if this is bait.....

what is it with people who constantly flame here to see the argument about flight schools. DR drew might ask you if you were abused as a child

They said it would take $5,000,000 for a PPL, dang! I didn't know training had gotten that expensive. Sorry, I saw the chance to play sarcastic typo police and couldn't pass it up. :D

Will anybody actually answer my question? Or are all the CFIs and academy people out on vacation?

CX880 We are answering your question. Open your eyes! People are trying to give you excellent advise, but your just being a smartass. We have been there and done that. Tell me how we did not answer your question! A simple thank you would have been nice. WTFO?

My advice would be to find a way to finish training as quickly as possible. A long training period or gaps between flying coould eventually cost you more not only in dollars but skill. You don't have to go to an expensive academy to fly a lot, but it also isn't a bad investment. I attended three 141 schools and the best one happened to be Flight Safety. You can't afford to be stuck on the ground for your local flight schools only 172 to get an annual. You should be flying every day. Set a goal to be at a paying job flying turbine equipment within two years of starting your training. Remember, every day you wait is a day of seniority!

Good luck,
Russian

I'm already going to college and will have my degree by june. I need advice on academy not FBO since I already made up my mind that training will be done at an academy.

And we are all telling you that you should not train at an academy. Most FBOs have loan programs now with Sallie Mae. I can even recommend you to these FBOs. You will be supporting all that is wrong with this industry by going to a pilot mill and you will not get well rounded training.

Why are you telling him that? FBO's are generally just as expensive as any other academy. What is your basis for this statement? How is the training "not well rounded"?
