Anybody have any info on N685WH? At about 3:10PM CT I heard this aircraft call a mayday on 121.5 due to an engine failure. He said he was near 3Y3 (central Iowa) but couln't make the airport and would be making an off airport landing. Several aircraft responded to his call, but he sounded like he was in real trouble. Just wondering how he made out...hopefully he's O.K.

Maybe this is it?
WINTERSET, Iowa -- Madison County Sheriff's officials said Wednesday that a pilot wasn't seriously hurt in a crash landing south of Winterset. The hard landing happened at 3: 03 p.m. in a soybean field 7 miles southeast of Winterset.Officials said the pilot, William Mabry, from Beaufort, S.C., was not hurt. He told officials the aircraft lost fuel pressure.Mabry was flying the plane home after purchasing it in South Dakota. The incident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The F/O was being a good monitor on the way to STL and heard his may day, we told ATC, as did a UAL flight. Also, someone told him to "switch tanks". Glad he is OK, he sounded fairly calm for someone flying a new plane (to him) with an engine failure.

Apparently he had just bought the airplane and was ferrying it back home. How suck @$$ is that?

Never pick the bean fields over the corn fields for an off airport landing. The beans flip you right over as your gear gets tangled in them, the corn is like a feather pillow and you just settle in. Just saying...
