Just wanted to take my new avatar out for a test drive ... it's MSNBC's simulation of SWA 1248 sliding off the runway at Midway ... notice the flames shooting out the back. Remind anyone of a certain SNL JetBlue skit? The simulation ended with the aircraft coming to rest on the street corner and shooting out a few small fireballs

Click on the video with the aircraft at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10388519/ to see it - it's freakin' ridiculous.

Funniest thing all day, right? Is it the dead little boy you find funny, or the destruction of property? Perhaps it's the near loss of life for the passengers, or the other injured as the airplane slid over their car?

Before anybody else tells you so, let me be the first to say you're an idiot. A bloody idiot.

Aircraft crashing and people dying isn't funny. Perhaps after you've been around long enough to have lost friends in aircraft you'll come to understand that. Perhaps one day you'll be old enough to have a six year old, and you'll rethink just how hilarious an event like this can be.

If I were you, I'd delete your post and then go hide.

I agree, its only a matter of time before you goot the Flightinfo boot for that comment

Your reading comprehension skills suck ... I never made any comment to suggest that the accident was "funny". I'm commenting on the media's coverage of the accident (or accident's in general) ... if you haven't jumped off your soapbox yet, you'll notice that there's an entire other thread that focuses a great deal of attention to the humor in the media coverage of this tragedy. Maybe you should carry your crusade over there.

Ah, your a 737 expert and an accident investigator with your 40 hours in that C172. HAHA, we get it now. Working on your private you have no room to talk.

the video does look kind of hinky, so i'd have to side with the polysci guy with his comments on the video. But, like you guys said, it does "appear" a little crass his part to use it as a avatar.

Polysciguy, if we misunderstood the post...then why did you edit it???

polysciguy - Show some compassion! I'm not sure who is worse - EMB120ASA or you for showing your stupidity! You might try and back pedal as fast as you can or find a new forum to hang your hat - you're not welcome here with that attitude!

I edited right after I initially typed it to correct a grammar error - no one had replied at that point.

I'm going to change my avatar so the one up there won't be visible anymore. My comments are consistent, however, with others made on this site regarding how the media "disatrocizes" these accidents for the sake of drama.

Maybe you can switch it to that of an American being beheaded in Iraq - or maybe the picture of the parent carrying their child away form the SWA accident - or maybe the USS Cole with the giant hole in the side - or Maybe of the Twin Towers in rubble or maybe the pic of the 767 just before hitting the WTC. Don't be stupid bro - grow a heart if possible.

Where in my post did I ever make any comments regarding the 737 or anything even vaguely related to a speculative remark regarding the accident? I commented on media coverage - that was it.

Well, that is what the media does because they are uneducated on the matter. Great idea, your working on your private, call CNN and MSNBC and tell them your flying backround and I'm sure they will hire you as a technical specialist on the matter cause I'm sure you know all about what happend.

You posted your "new" avatar following the SWA tragedy, describe the flames shooting out the back, and mention a SNL skit. Seems to me you were pretty excited about your "cool" new find - excited enough to make it your avatar. Most people choose avatars to show a union or solidarity to something. I chose to post a picture of my beautiful little girl. Others have pictures of the aircraft they fly. But for some reason you choose a picture of a tragic moment - weather it was Jet Blue or SWA doesn't matter in my book. You strike me as the type of person that would get off hurting animals or something. Time for you to do a reality check my friend. This is ONE heck of a small industry.

Yeah, cause they're definitely the same.

Given my intent, I didn't think it was crash to use the avatar on my site. But given the fact that you guys' have completely missed the point of my post, I have removed it. Fair enough. Given you guys' logic, anyone who has an avatar with a military jet on it should remove it immediately - lest we offend the poor arab woman who has to cary their child away from a smoldering hole in the ground. Even if misguided bombs are an accident, you'd definitely be "cruel" to show a picture like that.

Naw - US Military jets are cool and so are the bombs they drop in the name of democracy and freedom. After reading your posts I have a feeling you are either not from the US or are very young as your grammar and spelling could use some work.

Don't pull that fascist crap with me - I love this country as much as the next guy. I'm a 25-year old college professor. My application to the Air Force Academy was rejected on medical grounds - I have nothing against the military, so don't try and spin it that way. But if we can't show a picture of anything that takes human life, then by god, a fighter jet would seem a bit "crash". Personally, I don't agree with this, but it seemed to be the way the logic was playing out.

What grammar problems? Did I spell something wrong? BFD ... I'm writing on a freakin' message board and I'm typing fast.

Just so we're clear - I apologize that my post was interpreted incorrectly. I think I've shown that it wasn't my intention to make any reference to the tragedy itself, but rather the inappropriate media coverage. I've taken the avatar down - what more do you want from me?

Thanks for the insight, but I have no interest in entering your industry.

good cause we don't want you in our industry!

I'm a 25-year old

That's odd. Based on your replies and your initial post I could have sworn we were reading the writings of a fourteen year old girl.

Apparently you went to school, as you've posted several times on the topic of your education. Do they not teach you how to shut up in school? There comes a point when you learn that wisdom is not the same as book learning, and sometimes wisdom dictates that it's far better to shut your mouth and appear the idiot, than open it and remove all doubt.

Presently, you have removed all doubt.

I'm writing on a freakin' message board

What would you say if you didn't have a college education?

But if we can't show a picture of anything that takes human life, then by god, a fighter jet would seem a bit "crash".

That's "crass," Mr. Quayle college boy. A fighter only seems "crash" when it...crashes.

My application to the Air Force Academy was rejected on medical grounds

Obviously. They do have standards, you know.

Thanks for the insight, but I have no interest in entering your industry.

No interest in aviation. Interesting. You ARE aware that this is an aviation web board, are you not?

What does a dead child under a SWA B737 and a dead child by a bomb crater is Iraq have in common? Both are a tragedy of epic proportions, and neither one is funny.

Except to you.

Embrace that lesson, mate. Just shut up.

It's funny that you think that spelling is an appropriate basis for intelligence. I assure you that every word in my Ph.D. dissertation is spelled correctly.

Here's something else I've spelled wrong - but just for you. Go xxxxxx yourself.

Woah, woah, settle down Einstein. No need to resort to that language here, PhD or not. Well---especially if you are well-educated. But I guess you're only human.

A miscue on your part? Not understanding the audience that frequents the board? Not really having insight on how viscerally an accident can move a professional pilot- especially where loss of life is involved? Not understanding nuance? Who knows...

You apologized for the avitar and gained some insight into the mind of the members here. Fair enought. As you, yourself remarked, it's just a message board and with that means that people are going to go at you for some perceived misstep.

Take a step back and take a couple of deep breaths everyone.

I would love to know what University you work for so I could send a copy to the Admin. You remind me of the professors I had when I went back to ERAU to finish school. Some were self-appointed demy-gods that had no business teaching at all. Anyone every have Polay at PRC? Avbug is dead on - 14-year-old girl. I actually think 14 year old boy who wishes he was a girl.

Polysciguy....

you should cut your losses and stop replying to this thread. It seems when you take your foot out of your mouth, it's just to put the other one in.

We both teach at a junior college in Florida ... This is my first year here, and his second, though he's been teaching 10-years and this is my third year.

You're a tenured professor at 25 with a PhD or just an adjunct. Amazing that you could whip through your Masters and PhD so quickly after a Bachelors degree and by 25 be a professor.

Well, well, college boy. You have a Ph.D. How about that? And now you're in your third year at a junior college. Impressive, green one.

I guess all that money you spent on your sheepskin was a waste, wasn't it? Apparently they can teach you to read and write, just not think. Pity, for your "students".

Age twenty five. Three years teaching at a Junior College. And you, with a Ph.D. Having finished it by age 22. Now my math isn't great, someone else help me out there (not being a college boy, myself, you understand). You really rushed through that schooling...and then colleges, universities, and institutions were probably clawing each other's eyes out for an opportunity to have someone with your mature attitude and brilliant diction teaching the youth of tomorrow.

Sure you're not a teacher's pet, er, aid, private pilot boy?

I gotta tell ya, all them letters after yer name don't impress me a whole lot, bright spark. But yer attitude sure does. Tell me something. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
