Well today it finally happened! After all the months of getting my stuff together, studying for my written and passing that, working a job for the past 4 months and saving money like no other. I finally had my first flight. I've flown before, but not with a CFI and been able to log the time.

The day started off at 0645, I was meeting my instructor down at PTK at 0830. I woke up, got dressed and headed off on my commute. I arrived at PTK at about 0800 and just hung around the airport until he got there.

It was awesome to be on the other side of the fence for once, knowing that I will be in the air within no time. PTK has many more aircraft than FNT (my local airport) and it was cool to be able to see planes taking off every couple of minutes.

He arrived at 0830 and we did all the preflight. I taxied it out and it took a few minutes to get used to dancing with the rudder pedals. We took off, climbed to 5,500 MSL and did some turns, glides, straight and level, and then headed back into the patten, and did some low approaches.

I flew the whole time, except the landing. I can honestly say, I have never had as much fun in my life as I did today. In the end, my instructor said I did good and I will probably progress pretty quick. I was able to log 1.4 hours and I'm super excited for my next lesson! It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders after the work that I've put in to get to this point (yes, I know it's only the beginning). I'm trying to fly twice a week to satisify my addiction and progress at a decent rate.

I'm sure you are all annoyed of threads like these, but I'm just super pumped about flying! Have a g'day!

Congrats, follow your heart!

Congrats man! If your this pumped now, wait until you solo......... Now that's something to remember!

Congratulations, and good luck on the rest of your training! That first flight is one of the best moments in my life, and it sticks with you forever.

I can't remember my first flight. Not to worry because I hate it now, thanks to the airline industry for killing the dream.

Congrats! Try to get your private done quick without any significant breaks in training. I logged my first lesson at 10 yrs old. Greatest day ever!

Josh, never feel bad about posts like yours. There'll always be some bitter smarta$$ comments, but most of us enjoy reliving the thrill. Keep it up, demand much from yourself AND your IP since it's your coin, and show up prepared. It'll make the lessons better. Try to keep the flying continuous, no big time off between flights. Good luck!

Great advice right there! Thanks

Awesome.
It sounds lile you're a well prepared and motivated student, especially since you ALREADY passed your written. This puts you ahead in your training. Keep studying and make sure you know whats required of you by looking over the Private Pilot PTS or Practical Test Standards. These are the guidelines that apply to you during the practical test for the certificate.

Congrats on your first flight!! I'm working on my private now. I know what you mean and how you feel about you first flight. I felt that same way too. And I still, like you, have an addiction to this...Keep up the good work and you'll get there sooner than you think! Good luck!

Attitude killed your dream. I despise killjoys like you. Be happy for this guy as he is a welcomed breathe of fresh air. We'd be so fortunate to think Josh is a new breed of positive, enthusiastic pilots.

Josh, this is the kind of guy that is soiling the industry. No matter how many people you come across that hate this industry, the only thing that matters is how much you enjoy your future job. If you truly love flying, their is no better thing that you can do.

I concur with my colleagues on this board, congrats on your first flight. I, too, remember my first flight and that is a day that will always be with me. Best of luck with your training.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Josh,
Congrats...Although it can be a tough industry at times...follow your heart. It will pay off in the end. I still remember my first flight like it was yesterday, but, the one you will remember the most is your solo. Its something that nobody can explain, you just have to do it. Please keep us updated on the site as to how things are going. Once again, congrats.

Also, dont listen to all the negitive BS on here about your decisions. Just have fun and enjoy it.

man you finished your written before your basic flight training. Thats awesome! thats a good way to be prepared. now its time to look forward to your solo
