PFT is, paid flight training, where you work for a company either for a minimum salary or as a volunteer to build flight time and experience, in turn you pay a lower rate for the rental of the aircraft. I.E. - the Duchess I was flying in Atlanta was $190.00 per hour plus $40.00 for the instructor. PFT would mean you are basically renting the plane from the pipeline patrol company for $2,500 for a 100 hour block ($25.00 per hour) and gaining work experience at the same time. Several people seem to think that this is bad, but to me it make perfect sense, 100 hours at $230.00 (plane and instructor) equal $23,000 at the flight school, or 100 hours for $2,500 at the pipeline patrol company.
O.k. I bought a time building package of a 100 hrs in a Duchess cost alot more than that and all we did was fly around and try to burn it up ASAP. Wish I would have known about that before hand. Where can you get information on doing that. It sounds like it would be alot better than what I did, at least you would feel like you had a purpose or were doing something.
I did a couple of searches on here with no results, then did one on Yahoo (Pipeline patrol PFT program) and came up with a couple of hits. One was for a company in texas that flies inspection on oil riggs, price was $45/hr (100 hour blocks) or $50/hour (50 hour block). Also found hits for threads here for Jan 2006 and early for PFT programs. One of interest to me was from mtsu av8er in Jan 2006, he says he will allow pilots to fly with him in real world ops at $15/hr SEL and $20/hr MEL. I am like you and need the time, real world flight in actual IFR makes a whole lot more sense than just renting the plane and flying 100 miles, landing and returning. I sent him a e-mail yesterday expressing interest, will post later if I find out more.
The clock on the flame time-bomb is ticking here... beware! I think some people here just search for "PFT"
BTW check out central air southwest out of MKC for multi time.. $35 an hour I think. I worked there, seems like an ok deal if you're paying for time.
