Does anyone out there think New Orleans will eventually become a Hub for Southwest?? Just curious on what ya'll think!! Thanks

I agree...South West would never use MSY as a base.

Hey lowlycfi, I havn't heard Southwestern since I left. Got a good laugh out of it. We might get our AC back today. I will have to go back to "work" tomorrow I guess. Oh well. How's it going with the contract? RT

The only people to have the answer to this question are at the G.O. Who would have thought that apossible tampa base being so close to mco! All of these replys are strictly opinions. MSY until 95 or96 was a large pilot base for DAL, and a F/A base until 03. So you can never say never.

Aboout a month ago, an ass't chief pilot in OAK told me SWA would announce a new crew base in April, and that the base would open in early '05. He said they've winnowed it down to 3 choices; Vegas, Tampa, and Nashville. He told me this at the same time he told me about the class schedule for '04, which proved correct, so I put a fair amount of stock in what he said......my personal opinion is Vegas has about a 50% chance, Tampa a 40% chance, and Nashville 10%.....take that from a probationary FO with 8 months on the job...............

Even with the base at MCO, the large number of aircraft overnighting at TPA makes it a reasonable candidate as a crew base. For ever jet that overnights at a non-crewbase, the company pays for 10 hotel rooms (2 pilots + 3 f/a's on the terminating and the originating crew). TPA is already a mx base, so making it a crew base seems well within the realm of possibility.

Of course, LAS has a TON of jets that overnight there, and is also a mx base, so the same factors are at work both places. Of course, the costs & availability of the office space needed for a crew base and the relative costs of hotel rooms in each place will also factor in to the decision...

... so we wait & see.

Cheers,

Snoopy
