Alaska adds daily PDX-HNL flight, starting Sept. 20

April 13, 2010

Alaska Airlines today announced it will add a second flight between Portland and Hawaii, with year-round, daily service to Honolulu beginning Sept. 20. Alaska began flying between Portland and Kahului, Maui, last July.

Waikiki beach in Honolulu is one of the most famous beaches in the world.
“We’re excited to provide our Portland customers with additional nonstop service to the Hawaiian Islands,” said Joe Sprague, vice president of marketing. “Including these new flights, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air will serve the Portland market with 90 daily departures — more than twice that of any other airline.”

Alaska moved quickly to add the new service after Delta announced it is pulling out of the Portland-Honolulu market. Tickets will be available for purchase starting April 15. Alaska launched Hawaii service from Oakland after Aloha Airlines and American Trans Air (ATA) ceased flying. Flights from San Jose and Sacramento began last month. With the new PDX-HNL service, Alaska offers 80 flights a week to four Hawaiian Islands from Anchorage, Seattle, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose, in addition to Portland.

“This reallocation of aircraft to new markets has been very good for us,” Chief Financial Officer Glenn Johnson said. “It caused us to have higher load factors and better revenue performance. It's really strengthening the utility of what we provide to customers.”

The daily Portland flight, operating with a Boeing 737-800, will depart at 7:25 a.m. and arrive in Honolulu at 10:25 a.m. The return flight will leave Honolulu at 11:25 a.m. and arrive in Portland at 8:10 p.m.

two Hawaii flights a day. Too bad the PDX base won't be ETOPS qualified.

Good luck with that one!!!! The company is depending on those guys to cover the schedule!

Anyone know what the block/day the ETOPS planes fly?

Speaking of block hours, what are the lines running these days?
