Can someone please give me a history lesson on what happened to the USAir mainline guys that went to midatlantic? Midatlantic was bought by someone. What happened to their seniority and pilots. Thanks

Ok...

-US Airways furloughed
-They created Mid Atlantic
-MDA was staffed with furloughed mainline guys (mostly left seat) and "flow up" -PDT guys (mostly right seat)
-US Airways sold the aircraft (and gates I think) to Republic
-Apparently they didn't sell the "airline" (as it wasn't really a seperate airline to begin with) so the MDA pilots were out of luck as far a change of control clause in their contract.
-So, they were furloughed again, went to Republic as J4J or (I think) are in the process of flowing back down to PDT.

One highlight was that the pilots *mostly* stuck together and for the most part didn't bail out to Republic before the arbitration was lost.

That's it in 200 words or less. I'm sure somebody who went through it can fill you in better.

Its good to see that some NW pilots are seeking a history lesson before signing on to the "Newco ain't that bad" mentality.

The J4J guys that went to RW are already being called back to US mainline to fly the 190's, not sure of #'s though. Hopefully that will all work out for them.

Only 50% of the MidAtlantic pilots' seats (70 CA and 70 FO out of about 280 total pilots) were offered when the airplanes went (still going, actually) to Republic. Actually less than 50% went because many turned down the opportunity for the FO jobs.

Real screw job for those folks at "MidAtlantic". Fortunately some will get recalled to mainline soon.

The recalled USAirways pilots are not going back to fly the E190's. AAA won't have then on the property until November 2006. They will be bottom reserve on a B737, A319/320, or B757.

Mid Atlantic was supposed to be a key part of USAirways recovery and provide jobs for the furloughed mainline pilots (some of whom had 15 years of service). It was such a success that USAirways decided to sell the aircraft to Republic. Add it to the list of other management blunders over the years including metrojet, operation high ground, global carrier of choice, etc, etc ......

Don't forget "Business Select" or "A carrier of substance, style and international reach"

I thought there was no flow-back to Piedmonster.... They always had that "Greater Than God's Green Earth Here" attitude, and once you left you were gone for good. Any info?

Well, I am basing that on something I heard "rumot" about an 11th hour deal made by the MEC over there. All I know is they are no longer trying to come to the other WO.

There is no flow back to PDT. Seems its been back-burnered with recalls going on now.
