Well I guess you could say I'm one of these "hated" people who has been playing flight simulator for about 10 years now. I've wanted to become a pilot since I was about 6. Of course, that was impossible being that young. I've grown up finding that FS helped me build my aviation knowledge and my passion to fly. There was only so much reading articles in magazines and in books could do. I've found theres a lot of people my age who have grown up with flight simulator, and are just now finding they they are able to persue a flying career. I am 19, and I am just now being able to start flight training and start to actively persue my dream. I have a friend I've known a good 6 years, we met working at one of these hated "VA's". Now we are very good friends, both getting our PVT's this year, and hopefully will be flying for regional airlines by 2008. I also find that FS can be a good stress reliever, its easy to just click on an icon and be flying, even if it isnt realistic, its something, and it helps the mind focus on something else. Also with FS2004 finally getting decent ATC, its also helped me a lot learning different radio calls. For me and a lot of people, FS helped us stay interested in flying growing up. Sure some on the various flight simulator webiste take it waay overboard, but theres other like me where it was just a time killer until we could get up for reals.
