Does anybody have any info about Miami Air? I am thinking about putting in a resume and want some details. Any info would be appreciated.
 
In contract negotiations right now. FO's are looking to get a 20-35% pay increase. Three year training contract. You get a PIC type rating on the B737-800. Parking the B727's and replacing them with two B737-400's in a 56 seat corporate configuration.
We do a lot of international flying. Lots of flying to Europe and the Middle East. We have a weekely run to Italy from Baltimore and to Venezuela from Miami.
Fun place to work. Getting lots of ETOPS and long range navigation experience. Our B737-800's are ETOPS 180 minutes certified. We are also in the process of getting Electronic Flight Bags in our B737-800's. No more Jeppesen uppdates

I am in negotiations, too. I am looking to get that brand new, 2006 silver Lexus SC430 I have my eye on down at the local dealership for $12,000. He wants $72K.

I think we both have about the same chance at success. Then again, maybe mine is just a hair better.

Why are thinking of putting a resume in? PUT THE RESUME IN! If you are lucky enough to get an interview, go to the interview. If you are lucky enough to get hired, then decide if the job is for you.

Reading up on MNPS, NAT, FMS, LRN, ETPs, ETOPS, 2 pilot 121 regs, and international procedures might not be a bad idea.

They do a lot of AMC/DOD flying is what the people I know who used to work there say. Also: in-house union, no furlough history, moderate turnover (from firing and quiting), a 3 year $24,000 training contract. Low FO pay, lots of time away from home, and not a lot of upgrading. I hear the training is pretty thorough but interviews are pretty tough to get if you don't have an inside source.

A friend just turned them down because pay was too low for a 3-year lock. Remember, a type rating doesn't mean much without PIC time in type along with it.

I am not really concerned with the low pay as much as the 3 year contract. I don't think I want to get locked in. I have someone to walk my resume in, I am just not sure if I want him to. Does anybody know how many days away from home, do you have to live in Miami, any other quality of life issues, etc.?

This might be old info, my friend that went there said it was 9 hard days off, 2 soft days with 1.5 hr call out. Could be gone for 2 weeks at a time. Again, it might be old.
 
Yepp it's old....and we do fly the Heat 72, but not for long. We will keep flying the Heat but with a B737-400 in a corporate configuration. Our 72's are being parked.

I fly on average 30-50 hours a month and we can't be away from base more than 7 days . Normally 1-5 day trips. Very difficult to commute, we have several jumpseat agreements though. Life is good if you live in the Miami area. Lots of time off and not too much flying.

I moved to Miami and left an unstable regional career behind me. Smartest move I ever made!
 
I used to fly the Heat 72 a few years ago - real nice jet. I'da like to have been a fly on the wall (or pilot in the seat) on that return flight from Dallas!
 
I just got hired and was told the new contract will have much better pay for the first 3 years on the FO side. The contract is know $18,000. I was told you will not be away from home for more than 7 days. Since you commercial a great deal you get to accrue a great deal of miles on different airlines. The bonus at the end of the year comes out to be enough to pay for a vacation.

I've flown with some ex-Miami Air guys, they have some interesting stories about how they were treated at some borrowed gates due to the large number of ex-Eastern guys flying for them. Maybe thats what he means. But I think like Falcon Air, they have hot FA's!!
 
Miami Air is to be at the AeroServices/ClimbTo350 job fair this weekend. Does anyone know what a job applicant should expect during the interview? Is it most likely to be just a meet and greet thing or would they do a sim eval and full interview? Any input appreciated.
 
I would imagine that it would be a quick meet and review of your qualifications. If that was satisfactory then they would invite you back on Monday for a short knowledge test, face to face with the CP and then a sim check over at Aeroservice. But then again I'm just comparing them to Amerijet, that's how they do it.

Interview experience:
Seems like a great company. They are typing F/O's in the 737. I had the interview with J.P. Great guy. Just talked about the company and a little about what I have been doing with my career. Very straight forward. Had the sim ride a week later (727) which I had never flown before. But it went well. They just want to check your scann. Great company and a great opportunity.

Interview experience:
Very straight fwd. & professional. I met the CP at a job fair. They are looking for pilots with previous 121 time as well as those with EFIS experience. 737 type would help, but not required. Was given a handout on the company at the job fair after an initial 10 minute discussion... Basics on the good, bad & ugly of he company. Was called back a few days later for an interview... The interview was held in Miami at their headquarters. No technical questions. Questions asked were done so to determine how you would 'fit in' at the company. No questions were asked that would paint you into a corner. I got the impression they are looking for very flexible people who are not commuters. One on One interview with the CP, very professional and no BS... At the end of the interview he gave me a sim eval package. Scheduled the sim two weeks later... Sim eval is done in a 727 at Alteon in Miami. Real simple T/O, few turns, level off, direct to a hold, vectors for the ILS 9 into MIA. No tricks, just looking for basic instrument skills... Overall one of the most relaxed, professional interviews I have done in aviation. More airlines should conduct themselves in the same manor as those individuals I came across at Miami Air.

Thanks for the informative responses. I'm very limited on time for a good interview prep prior to the jobfair. Just hoping I can actually get myself to Miami while it's still happening, hand in a resume, and do the meet & greet.

Does anyone know any specifics that they seem to want of the applicants they hire? i.e.- Sounds like they want those that are going to live in or near Miami. Do they lean towards those w/ a corporate/charter background? Do they lean away from freightdogs? Previous Int'l experience(?), etc. . Is it the type place that you really need an inside recommendation?

I would say that by the looks of your experience your OK. It depends on the carrier on whether or not you need to live in Miami. Most don't care from what I've seen. I would have to say my opinion is limited in that I was only around that Aeroservice/Miami supplemental scene for 5 months. I did, however, fly with a few ex-Miami Air guys.
