So mesaba is hiring like crazy. Where did this big movement come from? Do they assign aircraft/training based on experiance or is luck of the draw? What is the expected upgrade time into the 340? Any new aircraft?

--i'm too lazy to look all this up.

Low time inexperienced guys typcally go to the jet. Higher time guys will usually get the Saab because they will be upgrading sooner.

Wow! Great attitude! Good luck getting the job! Flame Bait anyone?

actually, it was a little bit of sarcasm, dont take things so seriously.

i think that most all pilots who read and post here, like myself, know most everything going on at every regional/major. I was just looking for someone who works there to give me some extra insider info., since people tend to give different answers to the same questions.

I will be happy to drop it. When you come on here asking about the equipment we fly and why we are flying it, but claim to know whats going on doesn't make it sound like you know whats going on? I gave you a link that answered all of your questions that you asked like current upgrade time and what aircraft we are getting and have taken delivery of. If you did infact know all of this then why did you ask it? Just trying to help you General!

What happened to the General? Things were much more interesting with him in the sandbox.

Are you talking about "The General" or "General Lee"? Totally different people, not even close. Yes, I still troll the Regionals section, watching what is happening. I can see that most of the people getting furloughed now at Comair were not around after 9-11 when our guys needed help, so I don't say much. All I can say is Good luck to them and hope they get a better job.

Bye Bye--General Lee

It's good to hear from you, been kinda quiet around here lately, we need some pot stirring to keep this place entertaining. Pretty sure that's all it's good for these days.

Make that ALL of the people now getting furloughed at Comair....

Yep. I was 16 years old and a junior in high school when 9/11 happened so please dont blame me for what our MEC did then. I didnt know anything about the Comair/Delta issue until I started flying the line at Comair.... then it was too late. Guilty by association. Doesnt matter now, I'm furloughed and not going back.

Hi!

I WOULD like to get some current info on Mesaba, and the latest on the capt upgrade, and flow-through info.

I just got furloughed and live in GRB, so I'm interested in Mesaba (and PCL and Compass).

You're doin' the job-change thing again?

Read some past threads, XJ is growing for the time being but there is very little movement up the list so upgrade times are lengthening-if I had to make a completely uneducated guess I would think 2-3 years if the non-movement continues. However, if the flow starts up (I know, ridiculously wishful thinking) then times could be very short. We have a boatload of un-upgradeable FO's due to age (I think the latest average is 12-14 :) ) and/or time so you could jump to a left seat.

Compass seems like a decent place, but the flowback thing is a bit scary in the current climate. Last I heard upgrades had settled down there too.

PCL is also all over this board, still fighting the good fight on the contract but never seeming to get anywhere with their nazi managemnent...I have no idea on upgrade time at the moment.

Good luck.

Hi!

Thanx a ton for the info!

I spoke with a captain at Mesaba during my interview and asked him about the flowback. He said that in the XJ contract in the reverse flow, no Mesaba pilots can be put out on the street, the reverse flow can only occupy vacant positions on the seniority list.

The reserve-flow or Flow-Back is limited to the # of XJ pilots who actually flowed up. To date, only 15 XJ pilots actually flowed up to NWA...therefore, only 15 NWA pilots could flow back if they were to furlough. Those 15 NWA pilots would flow back into the seniority spots vacated by those who flowed up.

Not true. The number of flowback pilots can equal the number of flowup pilots. When mainline pilots flowback that may generate displacements and furloughs. As Splitbar said there is a limited number eligible for flowback right now so its very unlikely that it would generate a furlough but it might generate some displacements if 15 senior captains got injected into the vacated seniority list positions.

If NWA were to furlough in February of 2009, that would not cause any displacements. Mesaba will be upgrading and hiring for the next 6 months minimum. If 15 mainline guys/gals flow back to Mesaba, there would only be a reduction on the Vacancy Notices....i.e only 15 flowbacks will not cause displacements. If Mesaba was not growing then there could possibly be displacements. But I don't think that will be the case when DAL/NWA begins to furlough in early '09 with the 10% reduction in domestic flying. Now Compass on the other hand could see furloughs when mainline begins to flowdown by the masses. After all, Compass was designed to protect the jobs of mainline. That's their purpose. When you take a pilot job at Compass, you are just filling a seat until a mainline pilot needs it. It's kind of like a "seatwarmer" at the Academy Awards. When an actor needs to pee, you fill in and sit in his seat until he is ready to sit back down again.

Hi!

SplitBar: U spelled it wrong. It's supposed to be spelled "Lysdexia".

No. You are incorrect.

Compass was designed by NWA management during bankruptcy to replace mainline flying with an outsourced vendor. No different then Mesaba, ExpressJet, Horizon, SkyWest, Colgan, Mesa, Air Wisconsin, you name it.

The flowthough/flowback was the result of the NWA MEC trying to make the best of a situation where their work was being taken from them.

No sir, he is not incorrect. He is Mesaba. That would be an oxymoron(sp?). Like jumbo-shrimp. LOL
