Hi!
I WOULD like to get some current info on Mesaba, and the latest on the capt upgrade, and flow-through info.
I just got furloughed and live in GRB, so I'm interested in Mesaba (and PCL and Compass).

I spoke with a captain at Mesaba during my interview and asked him about the flowback. He said that in the XJ contract in the reverse flow, no Mesaba pilots can be put out on the street, the reverse flow can only occupy vacant positions on the seniority list.

If NWA were to furlough in February of 2009, that would not cause any displacements. Mesaba will be upgrading and hiring for the next 6 months minimum. If 15 mainline guys/gals flow back to Mesaba, there would only be a reduction on the Vacancy Notices....i.e only 15 flowbacks will not cause displacements. If Mesaba was not growing then there could possibly be displacements. But I don't think that will be the case when DAL/NWA begins to furlough in early '09 with the 10% reduction in domestic flying. Now Compass on the other hand could see furloughs when mainline begins to flowdown by the masses. After all, Compass was designed to protect the jobs of mainline. That's their purpose. When you take a pilot job at Compass, you are just filling a seat until a mainline pilot needs it. It's kind of like a "seatwarmer" at the Academy Awards. When an actor needs to pee, you fill in and sit in his seat until he is ready to sit back down again. Not true. The number of flowback pilots can equal the number of flowup pilots. When mainline pilots flowback that may generate displacements and furloughs. As Splitbar said there is a limited number eligible for flowback right now so its very unlikely that it would generate a furlough but it might generate some displacements if 15 senior captains got injected into the vacated seniority list positions.

No. You are incorrect.
Compass was designed by NWA management during bankruptcy to replace mainline flying with an outsourced vendor. No different then Mesaba, ExpressJet, Horizon, SkyWest, Colgan, Mesa, Air Wisconsin, you name it.
The flowthough/flowback was the result of the NWA MEC trying to make the best of a situation where their work was being taken from them.
