I was one of the poor bastards that got the boot back in February and I'm curious to see what some of you guys are up to. Have you moved on to greener pastures or are you still holding out hope of getting recalled? I decided to wait it out for a few months but eventually gave up. I'm cooling off my feet in Republic's pool right now.

There is at least one (possibly more) Mesaba ex-pat in training at Horizon right now, plus FlyI and ASA refugees. Glad to have folks coming to Horizon who are a little more industry savy than your average flight instructor new-hire. It'll be a tiny bit harder for management to dispense the Kool-Aid to someone who's been through ringer at another airline. Sorry to everyone who had to start over at the bottom at Horizon, but welcome aboard! I for one am glad to have you here.

I've been holding out for nearly 4 months now. My downfall is that I live in domicile and don't feel like moving or commuting.

I got the boot in February as well. I'm looking else where right now. I don't know if it will be worth going back to if the concessions go through and I think it will be a long time before they recall. The people I flew with at XJ were awesome and made it good place to work at.

Working in IT - made more since furlough than all last year at XJ. That said, flying a desk is getting old quick. Good luck to all you guys.

February Furloughee. Just finished oe at Republic. Commuting sucks. Unemployment sucks more. When the water (or BS) is up to your neck, it is time to abandon ship. I don't think that Mesabi will be calling anytime soon. Good luck to all the furloughees out there.

yeah its pretty bleak here, you all know that. To me i see a light at the end of the tunnel.....not sure if that light is a truck speeding in the opposite direction coming right at me, or something average will be in store. Needless to say, i have my resume ready....actually two, one non airline and one airline. Not wanting to give up three years of seniority so easily.....I hope we can all stand strong and shut this place down if we are handed something worse than mesa.......

In class at Shuttle America right now.
Great people at Mesaba, but I'm done flying anything with a Red Tail..

Let go in Jan. Thought I would give it six months writing estimates again. Still waiting and enjoying the summer and some extra cash. Now I might ride it out until Sept and throw my hat back in the ring with someone othe than a red tail.

Your kidding me right? Are there really people like this? Lifetime ban would be good for this type of comment.

I was furloughed on Feb. 27th and thought I would wait it out at least till August but with the new Furlough Posting that's not gonna happen. I'm gonna try Air Willy, Express Jet, and Champion Air. I'm still thinking about Pinnacle but I'm almost positive their heads are on the chopping block next. Unless some miracle happens and a decent contract is negotiated with our scumbag management I think XJ is screwed. Only time will tell. I think it's time for some "posiitive" insight from the one and only YourPilotFriend.:)

Furloughed in Feb. Sucked up the unemployment for a couple months with the idea to wait it out. Then I stumbled upon a relatively new company with some excellent prospects... so I took a chance. I'm now making twice as much as I did at XJ and within a month or two will be 3x as much. At this point, getting furloughed was the best thing that could have happened to me. That being said, I miss flying with all the very quality individuals at XJ... best pilot group out there! If XJ survives this whole ordeal, it'll probably never be the same. Good luck, guys.

IHM, is this new place aviation, or non-? Either way, congrats, but we are all curious about future options...

Was trying to wait things out... But I was just offered a job flying a Citation at YIP that I am going to give a shot. It may not be much flight time but it is over double the pay I was getting at XJ and it's finally that PIC jet time.
I miss working with all the great people at XJ and miss the Avro but the "don't worry you'll all be back in a couple months" is now 4 and counting and looks to be a lot longer so it's time to go. The new job isn't requiring me to resign my # so I'll hang on to recall rights but doubt at this point I'd use them.

Ugh! More furloughes? I figured that it was only a matter of time. Anyone know how many, and what the DOH will be???

COMMENT FROM MOD:mad:

SKILLZ

THIS COMMENT WAS WAY OVER THE LINE. MAKING A JOKE AT THE EXPENSE OF A BROTHER IN THIS CAREER WHO HAS LOST HIS/HER JOB IS UNCALLED FOR. I SHOULD BAN YOU BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT WE HAVE RECIEVED TODAY ALONE, BUT I WILL GIVE YOU A WARNING THIS TIME. ONE MORE COMMENT ALONG THOSE SAME LINES AND YOU WILL BE BANNED....FOR GOOD.

Wow. You're going to have to ban a lot of people when JetBlue declares bankruptcy.

um...ok. At that point I will be doing somthing else for a living. BTW, is there a reason you are turning this into a JB thread all of a sudden? I have many friends at Mesaba as well as other airlines that have furloughed. The comments by skillz were uncalled for...nothing more nothing less. As for us going out of buisness...I doubt it will happen any time soon. We will see profits for the rest of the year. I love it when people spout out about things they know nothing about. If you want to turn this into a JB thing...start a new thread about it. I am sure there are many here that would love to proove you wrong. I mean, 2 quaters that we lost money in the last 6 years and now we are going out of buisness.....give me a break

can u guys were normal shirts a jb? or do you have to wear those blue ones? I get it jetblue= blue shirt. But we had a JB JS the other day and the guy looked like swa FA

I know. Its a difference of opinion. I personally like the white shirts and think they would look great with blue tie and eppeltes (sp?) A lot of guys like the blue shirts as well. Like I said, its a differance of opinion. Now..this thread is about MESABA, not JETBLUE. If we want to start another thread about JB and uniforms etc, lets start one. I do not want to take away from the topic at hand.

Furloughed Feb 15th started class at Chautauqua Feb 22nd. I still read the ALPA fastreads and Mesaba MEC mail. ( I haven't given up my seniority # yet, but it looks like I won't be using it if/when they recall ). I have helped a couple guys get jobs over at the republic side with me, and would be willing to help any more that want it. PM me if you need a walk-in or just want to know what's going on at Republic Airways and I'm more then willing to lend a hand.

I know we have a few of them at Expressjet. I j/s'ed with a furloughed Mesaba guy in the right seat a few weeks ago.

I was furloughed in Jan. Took a month or so off and then went back to flight instructing. I've been looking around, but I don't know if I want to commit to a commute for the forseeable future.

I even thought about going back to school...but I can't get the aviation monkey off my back.

where to go?

Of the regionals hiring, who's got the shortest upgrade, and are the bases feasible for a commuter out of MSP? 9e's an option, but the future of all the red tails are unstable at best. I'd hate to jump from one sinkin' ship to another.

I know you guys don't believe this but 9E is fairly stable at the moment. We're understaffed and begging for people. We'd love to have you if you want to come here.

My good buddy doesnt do the aviation forum thing so I'll speak for him.
Furloughed in Jan. Made more on unemployment than first year xj pay. Now just doubled his salary by taking a non-aviation gig working 40 hours a week.

I personally had an interview but that got canceled.
Now I fly boxes in a 15-30 thousand hour Chieftan.... neato.

I still have some friends at Mesaba, great guys, cant believe management could turn that place from first to last place regional in less than six months.

PS. somebody ban crjskillz
