I'm not even going to waste my time entreating you to save the BS. Go ahead and flame away. I'm rubber, you're glue, Mr. Regional Airline Pilot whose "real" job still sucks. You too, Mr. Major Airline Pilot who sold the profession down the river when times got tough.

That said, the upgrade at Mesa is reported to be about 3 months on the 1900. How is this possible? Are that many of their FOs too low time to upgrade? I hear street Captain is over. How long to upgrade on the Dash?

Thanks for any real responses. To the rest of you. Yes, I know. "Your (sic) a bottomfeeding wh0re and I hope you get cancer!" Back at you.

Without time in type, or quite a bit of multi-crew, multi-turrbine time under your belt, a 3 month upgrade seems unlikely. I'm at Colgan and was just given an upgrade notice which will put me at 1 year 6 months for upgrade in the SAAB. Good Luck.

Well the way work before was, you would complete training as FO, then when complete you would go back to class for upgrade, so it is possible.

is your total time still 1700?

Quickest upgrade at Mesa is the D8 I think. They have been hiring street Captains all summer, though I don't know if this is continuing or not through September. The B1900 is 3 - 6 months right now, and they have a B1900 class starting soon from what I have been told.

Now the important questions I wish I would have asked myself a few years ago - "Why are the upgrades going so quick if its not do to growth (and its not)? Why don't the FO's who have the time (and we have em) want to upgrade?"

Think about that and then go work somewhere else...

As far as multicrew/turbine flight time required before upgrade...They have been upgrading anybody with ATP mins....flight instructors straight to the left seat of the dash or B1900...as long as they can make it through training. I went through it a few years ago with 2 months online as an FO at 1750 hrs TT.

I asked myself these questions. I thought maybe the answer to #1 was because everyone was getting hired by Southwest and FedEx. I can't figure out #2.

The last class had a street captain in the 1900. There are no reserve FO's in the 1900 right now. Every new hire FO has gotten a hard line before he or she completes training.

However, at this point, the FOs that have been here for a year are starting to accumulate the minimum time to upgrade. That is the disadvantage of being a street captain right now. As these one year FO's upgrade, they are senior to the street captains and keep the street captains on reserve.

The 1900 FO's that have been here for 2-3 years (there are a few of them) - have the time to upgrade but haven't because they are senior enough to hold ERJ captain.

That being said, the 1 year FO's can't upgrade to captain yet because there are no newhire FO's to replace them.

Captains aren't needed in the 1900 right now, but eventually the street hire and reserve captains will be tired of flying FO shifts and will probably bail as their 1 year point approaches. Then there will be a captain shortage again and they'll be looking for street captains again.

It's a cyclical thing here.
