Grats. You're the first to catch this.

Please notice there are no details listed. WTF is "up to $5000" mean? How long must you stay? What must you agree to do?

My guess (!) is that it's some sort of complicated and lame scheme . . . 500 the first year, 500 the second year, 1000 every year after and so forth. Oh, and it's ONLY payable once you quit Mesa, and if you quit early, you'll have to pay the company instead.

Think very long, and very hard before you bite on this one . . . .

I can almost GUARANTEE that this is not a "You're hired, here's your 5 grand".

Sadly I already work there.. this won't be what gets me to bite..

It may be a variation on the 500/yr referral plan they implemented..

they have to try to something to get people to stay. My last day is tomorow and i know of a dozen other FOS that are interviewing at chq and I know a few of the new guys that put in their two weeks notices right when they returned from IOE to go to RAH, things are not looking good at ole TSA.

Hulas knows NO other way to do business..........there will be NO BONUS monetarily or otherwise to work for that outfit.........

Did anyone else notice the spelling error?

I mean this is the company website and all, but come on!

Nice catch. Speaks volumes of the professionalism at the crystal palace at Mesa. Must not have legally purchased MS Word and didn't get a spell checker or something.

Maybe they won't have to pay the bonus now . .. . after all, it's impossible to take advantage of an "opportunite", as there is no such thing, right.

Probably a "clever" move to avoid a pay out.

Lakes still flies as UA Express don't they.. might sucker a couple over from there..12 bucks more an hour to fly a Dash.

So which carriers are people leaving to go to Mesa?

Here's the thing:

One of our chief pilots allegedly stated in public recently that other regionals are engaged in "predatory hiring" from our airline. Specifically, Jet Blue and Skywest are stealing "our" pilots. Now Republic is offering a cash bonus of $2500 upon completion of training (supposedly).

Mesa's response -- double the Republic bonus, but with many, many, many strings attached. Details aren't listed on the bonus, but I guarantee you have to stick around a few years to get the full 5k. This is supposed to make Mesa more attractive than say, Skywest or Republic.

Mesa SHOULD HAVE asked "How do we keep what we have?" and "Why are 2-3 year fo's leaving to work for another regional?" Apparently the fact that other regionals have better pay, more days off (about 1 month more off just for reserves), don't carry the board/cot to work so they can sleep on the airplane, aren't constantly getting junior assigned, getting their awarded flying re-arranged constantly, non-commutable lines* with 6 days on/2 days off, etc. etc. . . . this never crossed their minds.

* as recently as 1 week ago, our CEO purportedly (I wasn't there so this might not be 100% accurate) gave a presentation stating that commutability was not the company's problem, and that "You chose to be a pilot" . . . therefore getting to work was your problem.

5k is 2 weeks pay for anyone with a decent job...why would anyone let that be the driving choice behind a career move.

No. Lakes doesn't fly as an express for anyone as far as I know. They opperate as their own carrier acting as a "codeshare" partner for UAL connecting flights.

........and everyone in SGU is a top speller? hahahahahahahahahahaha

Sorry...............after some of the memos and emails I've seen over the years.....I just couldn't resist. I know that's a bit different than the company website...........but anyway.

Speaking of memos................I remember one from about 1992 or so that addressed whether or not we could leave the gate early. It went something like this (man, I wish I still had a copy):

"Effective (insert date) we will allow you to leave the gate up to 10 minutes early provided all that were booked on the flight are checked in and on the aircraft.

This will be an effective way to maintain the schedule and is great way to make up time if you are running late." :erm:

I'm not making that up.............you should have seen the captain (MK is his initials............for those that might know, think very senior RJ check airman in SLC) and I trying to make heads or tails of that one at 0415 in the PSP hangar.
