By the way it was not the FO flying and it was an Air Midwest flight. Fortunately, neither the crew nor pax received any injuries/fatalities. Good luck to both crew member.

Right, a Mesa flight, got it.

Suprised Mesa doesn't fly the 1900 single pilot anymore.... That should be enough...

.....shouldn't have let the FO land in that WX...
Whats so earth-shattering about that weather why the FO shouldn't land?? Especially now that we've found out he was PNF???

Might have had the nose wheel steering linkage deferred... Free castering mode is always an incident waiting to happen.

Maybe not.....

I wouldn't be too quick to cast a stone on this one. Wind was light and visibility 2 miles. Mesa doesn't have a sterling reputation for MX. I've never flown a 1900 but if the guy landed and the nosewheel steering wasn't functioning properly I'm not sure how many of you aces out there would have been able to bring it to stop on the runway.

Amen...

1. Landing with a nose wheel steering MEL is no big deal. I wouldn’t call it common, but anyone with some 1900 time has seen it.

2. Any 121 FO should be able to land in that weather. (Moot point anyway because he/she was PNF)

3. I also wonder why they canceled IFR in flight with 2sm and +RA. But then again, non of us were there.

Mmmmmm.........

Same thing happend at MHK about 6 months ago, right???
I actually think this is #3 this year.....And we arn't allowed to cancel in the air even if its severe clear....if they did they are fubar'd.

At that time the GENERAL public didn't know it wasn't the FO...and now the thought is why would anyone run of the runway in the WX anyway...sounds good to me...good thing no one is hurt and good luck to the pilots....maybe MX is to blame

Face it. It could have been a lot of things. What if the fuel controller failed and dumped a bunch of fuel into the engine just before the nosewheel touched the pavement? It would be the same thing as the PNF shoving one power lever to the stop. Would you have the presence of mind to quickly shut down that engine as you're headed for the weeds?

I'm not trying to defend the pilots involved. Could have been totally preventable as some have speculated. But for right now, none of us has a clue and it's bad karma to be taking potshots. Same thing could happen to you on your next trip.

Fly (and land) safe.

Wow... I never thought about that one. What if?????
