Thanks for setting the airlines and me straight with your ATP written and whopping 1400 hrs..... Your extensive experience in airline politics and operations is most valuable.

If she wants to go to Mesa and be another 21 yoa FO, 23 yoa Captain willing to work for the same wages as a pizza delivery driver....so be it.

It's these people who are so desperate to get into a jet, regardless of the cost, that are driving this industry into the dirt.

I guess that's hard to understand flying daddy's jet.....

palerider i guess you should be an airline ceo cause you know all. i paid for all of my flying and am happy with the decisions i made. i worked 7 years for a consulting firm dealing first hand with mgmt and alpa on pensions, i understand the "business" side. i guess you think it is ok to not hire someone simply for the fact that they worked at a company (the original point of my post). not only is that illegal it is "hindering" the industry, a standard you seem you think you do.

regional pilots only need to have a high school degree to "qualify" for a job. name me another job in which 10 years later a non degree job can be earning a near 6 figure salary (60-100k)? also, people continually bitch about mesa bringing down the entire industry yet their pay rates are only 6% less. seems like the whole regional structure is breaking the bank.

Plumbers, electricians, UAW workers, Master Carpenters, Dock workers, wedding photographers, mechanics, Sky Caps in busy airports, some OTR truck drivers, beauticians, massage therapists.....you want me to go on??

As for Mesa salaries, if touting that -6% helps you sleep at night, so be it. How about quality of life, work rules, etc.

I don't buy it, Mesa is a cancer that is growing. They will probably soon swallow ACA, and turn a fine pilot group and organization into a battered pilots shelter...who's next??

Not good on a resume????

I went to F9 from YV and was asked about the quality of my FLYING experience. 1900 on the East coast for 2 winters. Kansas City system for a couple summers and DCA for 3 years in the ERJ. Some easy PHX/ABQ/Rocky Mountain flying for a few months. From Mexico to Canada, Cali to the East Coast, It didn't bother the interviewers a bit, in fact, they were impressed with the diversity of my flying background, as they stated in the interview. I am one of 7 recent Mesa to Frontier new hires, America West has hired 14 out of the last 23 from Mesa. (NOT Freedumb!) JetBlue has taken 5 recently, CX 2, ATA another 7, Aloha 6 in about 24 months. Airtran 5 that I know of earlier this spring or summer. These are the ones I know of. Yup having Mesa on your resume is a hindrence, why would you want to fly anywere but a miserable USAir WO? Besides, hold out for a company with history of Paying for you training, Comair did it, ACA, ASA, Gulfstream still does and the list goes on. I worked hard, fought JO with every fiber of my being, ALWAYS remember the Fredumb A$$holes and get ready for the next contract. Mesa crews have been some of the nicest folks to work, AND PLAY WITH, anywhere. Good Luck, the interview is an "Asshole Check", if you are one you're gone....

You'll always be a Mesa slacker in my book! So does this mean your not as interested in tropical weather flying anymore then?

That sucks... And I already paid good money to some guys to beat you down next time you came here trying to schlep a job. Missed opportunities I tell ya.

Nah brah, jus kiddin! Congrats! And hold up the high hard one to JO next time you fly into PHX for me.

Just for the record... many fighter pilots in both gulf wars has less than 350 hours and they did just fine. Nobody can accuse me of being a thread jacker now!

Gone for a month, and we still are doing the ol' Mesa is ruining the industry' thing?

Expend your 'hater' efforts on real issues:

Cabotage will ruin the industry, as will all the 'tude about Mesa or any other airline - flying for any regional is all about what you bring to it, 'cause it certainly ain't about the pay.

also from women who work for Mesa in particular and regionals in general....

how many females Mesa have as pilots?

Who cares?!?!?!?!?!?!

(Seriously, Bunny.....is this a pressing concern of yours?)

First interview great, with another airline better

I think the Mesa pilots have been sold a bill of goods and are trying to make the best of a bad situation. There new contract is better than they had and it did bring the Freedumb guys under the Mesa umbrella. But what is lost on the Mesa pilots is that that golden carrot of quick upgrades and lots of expansion is at the cost of other ALPA carriers. ACA, AWAC pilots, FA's, Rampers, Management, Dispatchers and list goes on had to take pay cuts to remain competative with mesa's cost structure. How is this helping the regoinal industry. By allowing JO to put those wage scales in place I would have to work for 9 years as a mesa CRJ FO to make the same money I made in my second year (35/Hr). I have heard the mesa guys on the crew bus talking about how much money they are going to make when they upgrade, i think it was around 105/Hr. What they dont think about is thats a 18 year Capt. If you stay at mesa 18 years good for you but some of us want to earn a livable wage while were still young enough to enjoy it.

And yes other regoinal pilots do scoff at the mesa guys. I know you think thats hard to believe but its true. I find it hard to believe that you think a move to any other regional is a lateral step. I fly with many exmesa pilots who think it was a step up to work for an airline that pays you for WX, Maint etc cancellations and have trip and duty rigs. Next time you are in Denver or somewhere away from PHX and see how people look at you. And be sure to tell them about all the great things mesa has to offer.

So much to say so little time.

skybunny,

The "walk of shame" is a joke in itself, you get the job and you will be viewed no differently than anyone else in this industry.

350Driver, if you really think MESA pilots are viewed no differently than anyone else, you definately need a reallity check.

Jonathan Ornstien is the worst thing to happen to the piloting profession since Lorenzo. By working for him you are are promoting the destruction of good paying jobs at good companies and trading them for a crappy job at MESA.

Most educated people recognize this.

YOU may feel no different when you walk through the terminal in your shiney new MESA uniform(ignorance is bliss!!), but the sad truth is most other pilots do look down on you, they just aren't snubbing you as much as they would really like to!!!!!

P.S. Some (observant)MESA pilots are very aware of this. Some even wear their ID badges backwards or inside their breast pocket while in public, to keep a low profile.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is just the way it is!

Nobody knows how much it sucks at Johnny Lorenzos feet than the guys that are there taking the flogging firsthand. Most all of them did not sign up for the $hit they're in now.

Real tough guys beating down the abused pilots. Thread jackers and web flyers.

Whoever started this thread... If you are lucky enough to get job offers from more than one company by all means stay the friggin hell away from mesa but if nobody else is beating down your door with a job offer get some paid jet time and move on.

But yeah, Try and stay away if you can. Its only getting worse at mesa. you can trust me on that one.

mesa interview

First of all, congrats on the interview. If you want information on the company from a woman's perspective, join the listserve listed for the 99s. There are two listed--look for the Pro-99s listserve (www.ninety-nines.org). Any of your questions will get answered. Info on the interview itself-- www.aviationinterviews.com.

Secondly--I'm new to this forum. Can anyone say anything good about Mesa? Is Mesa REALLY that bad? Sometimes negative stuff is said by people with a grudge.

Look if you want to work for a substandard company than go right ahead. This is the problem with pilots right now. Everybody thinks that they will work for a small airline for a couple of years, bust there a$$ living on food stamps, thinking that they will go work for some major making $300,000 a year work ten days a month. PEOPLE those days are gone, and they are not coming pack anytime soon. WE as a pilot group XJT, Comair, ASA, Mesaba, and all the other small jet feeders have to put a stop to the race to the bottom. You can help be telling JO to go F&ck himself, by not taking that job. One pilot group can't do it alone, becuase there are pilots that will gladely work for free just so they can wear that **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** uniform, I recomend F&ck the airlines look into the Air National guard or Reserve or even active duty and become a pilot for the Military, UPT is a blast, the pay is great(compared to the small airline), when I do my two weeks of active duty(14 days) I take home after tax twice than what I gross in one month at XJT. Flying a jet may be fun at first, but that does not put food on the table and pay the bills.

Fly Safe,

LC-130driver

well thats just hunky-dory for you LC130, but not everyone has the same chance to do it that way are. there are quite a few eliminating factors that could be well beyond a persons control that will not allow them to participate in the training the military has to offer. dont discount the civilian route just because you are lucky enough to not need it
