OK guys...
after busting my butt flying corporate and and instructing, I finally have an interview with Mesa week of December 5...
I have read few reviews at the other forum...still there's no such thing as 'enough prep' for your 'first' interview...I am very nervous, happy, excited, scared....

now I know some of you detest Mesa, but please understand...and please no put downs...if you can help with an insight then do share your opinion...

I would particularly like to hear from those who are working at Mesa and from those who used to work and had good experience...

also from women who work for Mesa in particular and regionals in general....

how many females Mesa have as pilots?

I need as much help as I can get...
thanks.

Congrats on getting an interview Flybunny.

No put down on mesa pilots from here. I'm sure they are a fine bunch.

I cannot offer you any specifics, but maybe this will be of value to you.
Checklist for success by Cheryl Cage of Cage consulting has helped many through the process. I recommend it highly.

I've sat on the other side of the table (interviewer) many times. Be yourself, answer all questions truthfully, if you have any "oopsies" in your history use them as "learning & growing experiences".

You may be asked a "I learned about flying from that" question, or describe a safety infraction you saw/were involved in. These events always happened some time ago, not recently, and you gained great insight from witnessing/being involved in them. You are a much wiser person NOW.

You may get follow up questions challenging your decision. "No Sir, the FAR's are clear, you HAVE to have that tail nav light to fly at night! We cannot go till mx clears it, period. The q is designed to see if you will waffle, not on what really happens on line.

Again, good luck. If you wern't nervous you wouldn't be smart enough to be in the interview.

Now, please be advised that Mesa is trying to take over ACA. ACA has pilots on furlough. Your expectations of how fast you will get off reserve, get an upgrade, get that good domicile are literly subject to change overnight. I just want you to know this before you go in case they promise you CRJ Captain in less than a year.

Again, best of luck and try looking for Cheryl's book. We who sit on the interview boards appreciate prepared interviewees. It makes our job easy..

maybe know some stuff about that "BARRON" you did your corporate flying in. Ya know, just in case they hit you with a few questions about it....

congratulations on the mesa interview

Yes, I am wondering how many male pilots are at Mesa.
Please no put-downs, and thank you...

...while we're at it, how many he-she's at Mesa???

Busting your butt? Neeyah...puhleeze! I know people that are on strike at a tyson meat packing plant...they been walking pickets for at least 6 months. Go tell them about your butt busting experiences.

wow...a meat packing plant, thats just so ...inspiring

I usually do not post much, but here goes:

Be honest
Relax
Be yourself
Have fun
Study hard

...and always vote no.

Seriously, good luck.

So IS another 1,200 hour pilot claiming butt busting on their workers comp. Ooops...it doesn't exist, no such thing.

I can hardly wait seven months for the whining "oh my god, I been humping the right seat of this xyz plane for half a year with no upgrade in sight and all while making miserly FO wages", post.

As for a meat packing plant being inspiring, at least they had the balls to go out on strike for wages and improved quality of life issues.

Look at the aviation interviews.com site- nothing will/has changed. Don't "worry" about how many "female" pilots Mesa has, that should be completely irrelevant at this point. I believe Dash or CRJ classes will be what you can expect should you be fortunate enough to get the job.

Seems like quite a few AWAers were Mesa at one point so guess they cannot be that bad 121 time is 121 time, no change in color, shape, or form.

good luck and should Scotty McClellan be doing the interwiew that day you should be A- ok:D :D

3 5 0-

ps> loose the "concern" about the "gender" issue, it will not carry you very far.....

Career ending?

Well, that may be a little extreme, but I understand what he is saying.

I know first hand that those who interview at my airline (all line pilots), DON'T look favorably at Mesa applicants. Not that it means jack sh.it. If the goal is eventually a major, I doubt they care one bit where you come from....as long as you can hold your liquor and keep your nose up in the air:D

its one thing to be unprofessional on a bulletin board, but in an interview?!?! can't wait till next fall when 4th grade begins.

isn't discrimination in hiring illegal?

WrightAvia, embraerdriver, and few others,

I guess it’s tough for you to understand ‘figure of speech’ (language used in a figurative or no literal sense) when I talk about ‘busting butt’. I guess, all of us, including yourselves, have done that at one point or other during your flight careers...remember your first jobs…little pay and lots of time spent at the airport – in my case it’s 43 miles from my house.

Certainly I enjoyed the time when I did fly, but it’s been hard every other way; neither am I implying that it would be ‘…walk in the park’ at the regional as a new hire…and no, I won’t be complaining about ‘humping the right seat’ after six month…as a 20-year old (21 in February), if you know your FARs, I have well over two years before I could hold ATP.

For CitationLover, StinkBug, 350Driver, megreene, FlipConroy, Gulfstream200, and w4mch, I am grateful for encouragement and helpful insight. It’s so easy to spot those with ‘bitter’ personalities as our friends who have nothing good to say about anything. I think it’s even more painful for those (WrightAvia, embraerdriver, etc.) to realize that they are the in the 10% scum-category and not 90% who believe in ‘getting along with others’ and help for the ‘goodness of it’ rather than for any personal gain.

Thanks guys, and I hope to make it through the process to join you in this wonderful profession as an airline pilot.

PS. Thanks for the advice on ‘gender’ issue ...though…I was more curious than anything else…

Paying for flight time --- $30,000 dollars
Buying a new suit for the interview---- $300
Hotel room for the night--- $50

Working for MESA and making less than a cashier at Home Depot-----PRICELESS

good luck

Fly Bunny,

For the interview.
Expect basic HR questions Why do you want to work here, your goals, got you in to flying etc. Also they well ask you about your experience maybe some questions about your logbook. Also they will ask basic questions about the most complex aircraft you have flown. Practice briefing a approach from a JEPP chart and also know all the symbology for both the enroute and approach plates.
Know your IFR regs (when can you descend below DH etc).
Be able to do descent calculations. METAR and TAF interpretation.
The written is out of the ATP Gliem no 121 or WB/performance questions. That is about it. Again relax be yourself and prepare you should do fine. Mesa has been good to me and accomplished its goal. Any other questions feel free to PM me.
Gook luck.

I know first hand that those who interview at my airline (all line pilots), DON'T look favorably at Mesa applicants.

If that's true, it doesn't say much for your interviewers. To exhibit prejudice against someone you've never even met simply because of the ID they wear is unprofessional to say the least. I'm not sure I'm buying it, anyway. I personally know a couple of Mesa pilots who left a while back for ASA. Not sure why they would make a lateral move like that, but I guess they thought it was in their best interest.

I do agree with your other statement, though. Major airline interviewers aren't going to care what airline is on your resume. I would imagine they're looking for type and quality of experience more than anything.

Such a hard life! 1200 hours TT, he's been busting his but flight instructing and flying 'corporate'.!!! COME ON.. PLEASE
When times were good i didn't get my first airline job till i had well over 2000hrs with 135 flying on top of that!!

consider yourself lucky
