Interesting, I don't know much about Mesa...but what's with the typical FO upgrade process?

Mesa Hiring Direct Entry Captains
Mesa Airlines is hiring DHC-8 direct entry captains. Minimums include: 2,000 total time, 350 multi-engine, 100 hours in the last 6 months, ATP written, Class I medical, COMM/INST/ME, and RTOP. DHC-8 and/or Part 121 experience is preferred.

Its Mesa!!! Nothing is typical!! They are used to grabbing hold of there ankles!!

You better have prior 121 time or turbine 135 time. The next best thing is going in as a FO for 3-6 months until you get a handle on things. Then put your stuff in for upgrade. 6 months goes by fast. Good luck.

As you may know the company wrote most of the current contract at Mesa. They built fences all over the place to limit their re-training costs. As a consequence jet FOs can't bid turboprop CA (among other things). So the only pool they have to draw on for upgrades is turboprop FOs - and that pool isn't large, and it's even smaller because some of the FOs don't have ATP mins.

There was talk of dropping the fence to staff the Dash, but I haven't heard anything about that lately.......

Hence street captains.

How bad do things in your life really have to be to one, consider joining MESA and two, flying some beat up old Dash around?

Buy a bullet and rent a gun!!

I like how they say....experience is preferred.

Like...we really want you to have some, but if not, we can work something out. Just want warm body's so it seems. That says it all.

.......

I think PDT had a few guys leave recently for the Dash opportunity with Mesa, some with fairly low flight time, into the left seat if im not mistaken. I dont see how they are going to feel comfortable being a captain with the lower flight times/experience. Oh well, they are probably just going to end up at UPS before the rest of us.

Colgan is the doing the same thing. Except that it seem they are doing so as a result of rapid expansion rather than as a normal process.

Someone on here sees the big picture!

Colgan is NOT doing this. We are hiring FO's and upgrading inhouse beech FO to become Saab Captains (they are awesome pilots too).

There is a posting on climbto350.com for Beech Captains at Colgan which was reposted just a few days ago.

Someone said that Mesa had a total of 17 applications for 200 slots last month. It's no wonder why we are seeing job postings like this.
Hmmm pilot shortage, profitability, and growth...salary's are going down, what's wrong with this picture?
