Ooooh. Thanks for the link. I've already sent them my resume as I too, want to drag the industry further into the toilet! *sarcasm*

You guys are missing the point, the number of people traveling inter-island is decreasing at an increasing rate. For those that lack logical thinking skills that means business is going away, when that business goes away so do we. The airlines are loosing money regardless of how much they charge for a ticket right now and that wont change. Maybe some government subsidizing would alleviate the pain for all of us. Im not saying Mesa is here to save the day for the locals it just looks like conventional airline business models arent cutting it with current oil prices. I just dont understand how the government can fork out money for a route into Ponce City, Oklahoma and not help out atleast the locals here with some affordable airfare...then we keep our jobs as well. You might be able to rent a car for a week on the big island but have you seen the average hawaiian residents paycheck, I have and they will be more than happy to sit in their car for a few hours in bumpy rough seas to save a couple hundred bucks. I enjoy the heck out of flying in Hawaii and hope to be able to do it in the future and if I want to either SWA is gonna have to take a stab at it or things here will have to change.

If the only thing you can do is tell me to apply at Mesa youre missing the point of my posts and leads me to believe maybe your pay and QOL should be the only things youre concerned with in life.

They already do this. All the gov't dough goes to the fat guy in the trailer in OGG. you know all those cute little single-engine vans that fly to LUP and such?

However, if you can get your local senator to subsidize our ops so we can make a reasonable living, I'll vote for you for mayor!

I live in Kauai and regardless if Mesa is a Sh*tty company these islands really do need cheaper inter-island travel. Families cant afford to see each other for birthdays and holidays, regardless of Mesa's intentions and the destruction they are causing in aviation they really are doing hawaii residents a favor. At some point maybe pilots (like myself) will just have to eat ramen if they want to work/live in paradise. Flame away....

Then move to the same island as your family members. Airline tickets should not be given away no matter where the flying takes place.

As cliche as it sounds...write your congressman. Better than sitting around and bitching about it on FI.

I am sure a lot of them would if they could, remember these people arent on vacation like the rest of us. They dont live on the big island because it is more scenic than honolulu....

Nobody said anything about free, reduced rate maybe but not free.

RJP I wasnt aware of any govt $ being given out to airlines here in Hawaii (if you can call WP an airline). If so seems like it is proof positive and might work on a larger scale.

Its called EAS money google it DUH!

It is my understanding that the Government has thrown a ton of money into the super ferry.

well, im going to go live in plzen in the czech republic next to the pilsner urquell brewery. i want some cheap tickets so i can go visit my family in hawaii... they should be affordable, like around 39 dollars!

All Im saying is something needs to be done or we're all gonna be out of a job, I would love to see the government subsidize the airfare for hawaiian residents so atleast they can fly for a reasonable price....screw the tourists. It is kind of funny how no one has responded to the superferry, if that sh*t happens and works we wont even be flying for pennies on the dollar. Irrational thinking?

Funny thing is the airline who has the EAS routes out here have an internet fare of roughly $85 and walkup of $95. People in Hana love paying that much for a 10 minute flight to OGG.

So where's all that $$ going? The trailer can't cost too much to rent so somebody fat must be embezzling and making a tidy retirement for himself.

I don't know too many people on this board that are on vacation here in Hawaii. Maybe you are, but the rest of us work for a living. (OK, not me. But everyone else does!)

Be sure to forward me a copy of your resume when you get back from the mainland and have the time to get a job at WP. The more I think about it, you're perfect for PW. Can't believe you haven't gotten an offer there yet.

Aloha.

I like the retro paint job on that AQ bird. Pretty slick.

I am in no way condoning what mesa is doing to potentially ruin aviation in hawaii, and certainly would never even considering crossing a line. But if I can fly Great Lakes from Denver to Ponca City BFE Oklahoma with three other passengers for cheaper than I can fly from Kauai to Honolulu and back something needs to be done. I myself dont have family on the islands I'm just an observer of the real residents here. Anyone kind of curious as to how the super ferry is going to effect our dream jobs in a couple of years? Maybe if they can find a way to keep fares reasonablel we wont loose our jobs completely.

Great Lakes flying to Ponca is an EAS route, so the gov't subsidy is why it is so cheap. They couldn't/wouldn't fly those routes othewise.
