I have a medical test coming up that requires me to be put in a deep sedated state. I'm not put out but I will not have any memory of the procedure. I have a trip that starts two days after this procedure and am concerned about the legality of flying that soon after having the narcotics in my system. I know I will feel fine but of course that isn't the issue. I am concerned about the random drug testing.

I am hoping someone has had some experience with this and has some definite answers as to time allowances for this situation.

Thanks.

I had narcotics for a medical procedure a couple of years ago. There was no way that I was ready to fly two days later. I drove a car the next day, after what the medical folks considered to be adequate time, and even that was scary. I'd had narcotics before after major surgery and man I just HATE them.

Your mileage may vary.

Whenever you eventually fly after the procedure, it would be best to have some sort of documentation stating that you had narcotics under a doctor's supervision. It will save you a lot of hassle in case you do have a random drug test which comes up positive.

Better to have the proof beforehand, than to try to get it after the fact.

I believe 72 hours is the norm for the medication to be out of your system.

Thanks to all who have responded.

I think two days is too soon and will give that trip away or call in sick.
