Why did she get a letter asking her to surrender.
Probably because she called an agent of the medical branch of the FAA and says, "Hello, I have a condition that disqualifies me from holding a valid medical certificate."

An AME works for the FAA, not for the pilot who goes to him.

Why do so many pilots not know this. Don't get me wrong, there are many fine AME's out there who will bend over backwards to help resolve pilots medical problems, but just as pilots are technocrats they must develop some street smarts and ASSUME that there are many wolves in sheep clothing!!!

I am a Marine that was going through jet flight training and was NPQ'd from flight training due to medical reasons. More specificaly, I had to start taking anti-depresants which was an automatic medical disqualification.

I might have been your flight instructor..I have had that effect on many students in P'cola. No just kidding. Good luck in you quest to start flying again.

BTW.. I was a Marine also, just retired last year.
