Heard from a reliable source that ASA will start up a new hire class in March. Wondering if anyone had heard the same or different, and anything about the future after that.

Probably getting ready to hire scabs.

ya know, even though I'm in the pool for ASA, if the pilots walk, I walk too. Otherwise, how else is the job going to get any better?

Nothing is going to happen until two things are done.
1. we have a contract.
2. we have a fleet plan from DL/ or a new airline to fly for.

I don't want to rain on anyone in the pool, I live on a block with tons of Training Dept guys and nothing is coming any time soon. I've been at ASA for over 6 years it hasnt been this dead in a long time.

Why would getting a contract have any bearing on hiring. If anything, it is the inverse that is true as the new folks have lower expectations for the contract.

I thingk a new fleet plan or a new airline to fly for would certainly increase flow of classes, but it is not the only way.

When hiring begins/stops has never been logical in our view, I doubt we'll start being able to predict it now.

And I heard from a reliable source that we were getting 22 -900/705's on property by October and that we're going back to Dallas and that the FA's were gonna wear Go-Go boots and hats and we're getting a codeshare with United and CAL and ...

for those of you waiting on a class date, hope your rumor comes true.

Dan Robertson (the new guy over ASA recruiting) came in my Recurrent Ground Training class just a couple of days ago.

He said nothing was going on. There would not be any training classes until this contract was completed. He said Skywest was not bidding on any more flying until they knew exactly what our cost would be.

He also said they have moved almost all the instructors back to the line because no new training was going on. He said this actually puts us in an over-staffed situation.

However, he was optimistic and felt this was just temporary and things should get back to normal in a few months.

As of today, that information is incorrect.

Approximately 1/2 of the instructors went to the newly created Standards Department a few months ago.

Of the remaining Instructors and Check Pilots, about 15 of them will be bidding a line and line flying each month. They are not being released from the training department.

It appears that that want to keep all of the Instructors within the department and ready to go on a short notice if the conditions require it.

Yes, you are correct. I was just trying to give the short version.

There is still training going on. Recurrent, LOFTs, ProChecks, etc. Just no new hires.

haven't flown since jan. 17th. Reserve kicks arse!!!!! Oh yeah, nothing in open time either.

yeah right! You were in my class and should be holding a relief line. Unless you made that choice to go to the 70.

Finally reserve is getting back to what it use to be, NO flying. I haven't flown since 1/12/06 either.

What we need is the SKYW reserve system. Buckets, requests for 1st call, and get this - you can request early release, and they actually will call YOU to say "buh-bye, enjoy the rest of the day". Oh, and 11 days off a month too boot.

That sounds like some good QOL improvements to me, that won't cost a dime.
