What is the thinking of majors hiring pilots at age 50 assuming they have 1000 pic jet and some decent connections?

Thanks,

It should not be an issue. There were some guys in their 50's in my newhire class, and that was before the age 65 rule change. They also want to show they don't engage in age discrimination since your age places you into a protected group according to the EEOC. I would say go for it... You still have 15 years......

plus they will never max out the pay scale

Most real airlines pay scales max out at 12 years.
So a 55 year old hired would not peak out, ours peaks out at 17 years at $175/hr

Don't laugh. I might be "one of those" in class some day.

It is against federal law for an interviewer to ask your age. Just get a good night sleep, hyrdate, and use some of your wifes anti age skin cream and you should be good to go. I am only joking a little.

Yes but at the same time they ask for presmission to do a FAA background check, which of course comes back with your age. Plus most smaller companies ask for a copy of your Certificates and Medical

Why wouldn't they? That's the question- I think you're good, but echo CheapFlyer's statement.

And it balances out retirements in the future instead of a whole pilot group leaving in a short period of time like will happen shortly at a couple airlines.

This beats the late 70's where getting an interview over the age of 30 at a major required "Two logged Lunar Landings" in order to apply.

There is a difference between senior and just old and decrepit.
