Have you ever lied about having to fly to get out of something?
Example: Visting the inlaws, going to someones wedding, going to church, avoiding someone you don't want to see, etc.

One of the biggest perks of flying to me is not having a set schedule, and you always got a good "out" if you don't want to go somewhere you were invited to, or attend something you don't want to.

Does anyone else do this, and also examples!

All the time!!
I've been asked to stay longer at work (few years ago while working in a restaurant), but I had to fly. I f I'm in aboring place and want to leave early, sorry, have to wake up for an early flight, and many more...

Yep...I magically had 10 hours of lessons scheduled last Sunday so I didn't have to go to a birthday party....oh darn

We have one guy who gets dispatch to page him just so he can get out of the house. His wife keeps him on lock down. I lifted his pants leg and told him I was glad she removed his ankle monitor one day before we went out.

Wow, that's pretty bad to have to do that!!!

How about lying in order to GO flying? You guys don't waste sick time on actually being sick do you?;) Just don't buzz the boss' office window.

I once called in sick "I will try and 'cough, cough' make it into work in the afternoon, if I can" while two states away on a kayak trip. Life is too short.

I lied once to get out of a physics class. I told the teacher we had a flat tire at an airport far away and I was stranded there all day. After class she called maintenance, they told her they had no information about such a problem. She called the chief pilot who called my instructor. Needless to say I was busted!! My CFI called me telling me next time to give him a heads up so he can warn everyone I am trying to get out of my physics class.

In the last few months I've gotten out of a lame y'all come football game, church, helping somebody move, and a salsa dance lesson. God, my schedule is just so unpredictable......

For this particular guy's plan, the term is "phantom trip". It has been used for nefarious purposes that are occasionally motivated by something like the deal this poor guy has going.

Of course, there's a flipside. We had one guy whose WIFE would call scheduling and tell them Barney had been home far too long ( a relative term ) and he should be given a trip ASAP. Since they knew Barney, they empathized and gave him a two week trip.

Of course then we poor FO's had to live with him for two weeks.
