Huck's avatar reminded me...When AMR TUL was doing the D checks on the FDX 727's in the mid 90's the check pilots returning to the field would do a low flyby with a climbing break to the downwind leg. Coolest thing I've ever seen in a transport aircraft.

No need to pull the Circuit Breakers. Just flip the Ground Prox flap override switch to Flap Inhibit like you would for any approach requiring less than normal landing flap.

ah... did you notice no gear at 20 feet AGL? :)

ah, yah I did.

Did you notice that the original reference was to the ground prox alert for flaps?
Presumably, they had the ground prox gear override switch to gear inhibit or they would have been listening to "too low, gear", but that wasn't the issue. I wasn't suggesting this was an approach, or I would have said "like any other approach" although doing an approach with no gear down certainly can reduce the landing roll and save the brakes.:)

Bragging about a 20' flyby......

Suggestions of pulling CB's and over riding safety backups......

Disregarding Caution and Warning Audio systems.......

Guys, please. Im going to get an ulcer. Making me feel like I'm watching my kids play with knives. Just be safe, please.

Thanks for the compliment Dinger

First of all.....Captzaahlie........awesome avatar.

Secondly.....you can't MAKE a SWA plane look good no matter what you do......or shall I say....YOU CAN'T POLISH A TURD.

No offense....great airline.....but FUGLY airplanes

Thanks for the compliment Dinger, my son enjoyed that day a lot although the mini size bag of pretzels made more of an impression on him than the lowly turboprop cockpit, even with his need to push buttons and switches! Go figure that one out.......................guess he's just part of the misinformed public until his first flying lesson.

I beg to differ on the paint scheme though, at first I was unsure of the new purple scheme but somewhere just prior to getting my first chance to interview I really fell in love with it. I would wash and wax two SWA 737's for interview number 2 right now. If you've ever washed and waxed all the sq. footage on an airplane before you'd think I was insane, but that's how badly I want to join the club! SWA PEOPLE DEPT. ARE YOU LISTENING? It would be a pretty good deal for you!!! :-)

It seems like there are definitely two camps on the SWA color scheme though, those that LUV it and those that really dislike it, I haven't really heard too many in between........ It grabs your attention though and I have to give the masterminds at SWA my respect for getting that accomplished!
Steve

PS: Dinger your current position sums it all up these days........
theres a lot to be said for being employed!

Its cool looking and I like the new paint scheme, despite what some others think. He looks about 50-75 ft agl. Yea I like seeing cool stuff but can't help to think how to explain it away if something bad had happened. That was always the litmus test I did when considering doing something in an aircraft, "...if this goes bad, do I have a leg to stand on by way of explanation." If it's operationally required, thats a different story.

Not trying to be a "sally". Just don't like to take unnecessary chances. Anyone here ever see the old Airbus footage of a low flyby...went right into the treeline and crashed. Point is you never know. ASO training and current Flight Safety Engineer, so call me a "safety Nazi" if you like.

SWA, in my opinion, is doing better than any other airline in the business. Think what a mishap would do to that. Just my opinion. Isn't there a lot of talk on other threads about the Pinnacle pilots who lost both engines while operating the plane in an unnecessary way? Yea, when everything turns out OK, you get labeled as worrying too much. Things go wrong and those same folks that were saying "cool!" now suddenly turn into Monday night quarterbacks admonishing the pilots for not acting "professional."

So again, yes the flyby looks cool, SWA has a new aircraft and company is doing well. Good luck to my friends there. Just don't do anything you might regret later. Fly safe and keep a good thing going at LUV.

Just curious...do you feel like a pansie?
