Now you know why testpilots are really short guys, but with nerves of steel.

That had got to hurt!

canyon

That looked like a hard landing I had at Newark with People's Express.:)

The rollout for the 190 is scheduled for Monday, February 9th. If I can get a picture, I'll post it. Flight testing should begin shortly.

That is flight test video from McDonnell Douglas during the certification of the MD-80. I believe they were doing landing performance analysis when this happened.

Very Nice! Out of airspeed and ideas. One problem, where is the tailhook?

Ahoy, Welcome Aboard!

Uh yea, it's a joke. This was an MD-80 at Edwards doing short field landing certification.

I thought this happened at Mesa and it had 2 or 3 crew changes before a new FO discovered the problem

50,30,10.....BAMM.

"A little firm, but on speed and in the TDZ, I'd give it an 8......"

Can they MEL that?

Only if they can find enough tiny little yellow stickers to cover the hole where the empennage used to be!

I bet the crew didn't realize the tail fell off, probably went, **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** that was a hard landing, maybe we blew the nose wheel.

okay, props to the peanut gallery -- that's the best laugh I've had in a while, reading all the comments!

"Yeah, we'll write it up when we get to a maintenance base."

Cheers!

I don't know. The Guat might disagree. :)

Was that the two board that he was rolling by just after impact?

I saw that too. Closer inspection I think maybe it was a parallel runway or maybe an intersecting one. Anyone else agree?
