I lost my CFI and Commercial this past weekend while out of town and wondering if anyone had any suggestions for steps to take so as to try to prevent any fraud or credit scams occuring, be it my tickets fall into the wrong hands. Unfortunatly the FAA is so **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** slow they have yet to send my new tickets that don't have my SSN number on them, so it's our there floating around. Thanks

I would highly doubt that you have much to be worried about "present day" since you already notified the FAA and your "new" tickets should be arriving soon. I would also assume the FAA issued a fax to you until the hard copies arrived that stated you were "authorized" to excercise the priv. of those tickets.

I do not think "fraud" or a "scam" could be very successful to whom ever has the tickets (also keep in mind that they would have to be in the "wrong" hands for this to even possibly happen)

I would not be overly concerned about this if I were you-

His concern is identity theft. The information contained on the certificates is everything needed to steal an identity. Ssn, birthdate, name, physical description, address.

If you're just getting around to requesting new certificate numbers, you're also slow, it's not just the FAA. That should have been done a long time ago.

The administration has been reasonably speedy with these changes and updates. You shouldn't have to wait long. As for the missing certificates and personal information, there's not a thing you can do.

I understand the "concern" completely, the assumption then would have to be that his tickets with these "items" on them would be in the "wrong" hands of someone with will/intent of doing something of this nature. I lost mine at a hotel and I recieved a phone call the next day asking me for the best way to send them back to me. Not all people in society are out to do harm with intent on illegal activities... He can either worry about it(which he has little or no control over) or stay positive and optimistic that nothing bad will materialize.

ps>>> bobby, what is your feeling towards the Peterson case with regards to Mark Geragos accepting this case.?? I think this should be a very very interesting case to watch since one of the best defense attorneys ever will be representing him. I would only assume Geragos will make a motion very soon to get this case moved to LA.? He seems to get his way in the courts out west ...- Just curious about your opinion since you are in the legal profession and I am pretty sure you will be watching..... Seems like the prosecution team is going to have their hands full proving his "guilt" since a cause of death is unlikely to be found and will make "proving" this case even that much more difficult.... What is the talk out in the DIA area about this case and Geragos.??

When I am on a layover I just take my credit cards and cash with me when I go out. The rest I leave locked up in my room. If you dont' need it don't take it. At another airline we were required to keep dupe copies of all our certificates in our flight case, they can be obtained from Oak city.
