I am consulting for a defense contractor that has just been awarded a new contract with the USAF to operate a Gulfstream owned test aircraft (GV) for a two year period. Initially there will not be a lot of flying, so the company is considering the use of contractors on a part-time basis. Pay will be based on a daily rate between $700-900 plus expenses. They would like to use pilots that have prior military C-37 experience, but it is not a hard requirement. If you'd like to learn more, please PM me.

Well

I will be finishing school in two weeks. i have plenty of c-20 expierence over 3500 hrs.

$700-900 bucks a day. Do I feel the bar sagging... TC

Hate to rain on your parade but the going rate for GV contract pilots is a lot closer to $1,200 a day but then your contract proably went to the lowest bidder. I think most GV guys that I know can find all the work they want at these higher numbers. Good luck though as it might be interesting work.

I don't work for less than $1,000.00 a day and that's only if I like you. If you require actual test pilot stuff, it costs more. ;)

AND, it has to be a trip to Moscow. AND, the employer has to take care of all the, ahem, "extraordinary" expenses at Nite Flight... TC

I get 900 a day for X stuff.

No way would i do it for less than 1200 a day.

Are you pocketing the extra 300?

As a follow-up to those of you who PM'd me here are the details:

1. The aircraft is expected to be based at Long Beach airport at GAC's facilities and will be operated primarily in the western US at various military training complexes (such as R-2508 & Nellis). Qualified pilots do not need to live in Los Angeles and will be paid to travel to and from Long Beach from their domiciles.

2. The aircraft will support an Air Force program that is developing net-centric communication payload systems. This is not a flight test program, but rather a communications development program.

3. The aircraft is owned by GAC and will be operated by a third party contractor. Expected annual flight time will only be about 150 hours with an average sortie duration of only 3-4 hours.

4. The daily rate of $700-900 is based on GAC's published hourly labor rate and reflects the short flight durations. As the sortie durations increase the daily pay rate will go up accordingly. IMO, it is better to keep the expectations low by using conservative estimates for now.

5. GAC is requiring the contractor to contract with pilots with prior GV experience and the Air Force has requested that the pilots have prior military experience for security classification reasons.

6. The first flight date has not been set yet, but will most likely occur before the end of the year and continue for a two year period.

7. There is a lot of upside potential with this program for future contract expansion and operations/program management opportunities. If successful, the Air Force could field a small fleet of Gulfstream aircraft for a multi-year contract supporting worldwide support operations within the next three years.

I hope this helps those of you who PM'd me and have a genuine interest in this information.

Gulfstream LGB is ripping off you and your pilots. A flight hour is a flight hour.

This post should be on the Military board since civilians need not apply. That would cloak the appearance (and reality) of whoring yourself out.

We have listened with great respect to GVflyer as he described Gulfstream (SAV) as holding up the bar on pay for their services--a full day's pay for a full day's work. For LGB to tell you that a short duration flight (1.5 hours) doesn't warrant the same pay as an hour and a half over the NOPAC is an insult.

If someone who is out of a job REALLY needs to take this job, I have no problem with it. Many of us have gone to work for less than industry standard pay. But it is what it is.

Good luck with the program. I hope it is successful and helps our troops.TC

My current rate for the 450/550 is $1500 per day (plus expenses).

I have no problems finding part time gigs. Perhaps this rate is tied to a government deal or limit; regardless its a little on the low side.

If GAC is maintaining ownership of the aircraft, you can bet that they are charging the government fair market value for an hour of G550 time. I am guessing they are not offering discounts for flying 1.5 hours instead of 12.

Not in corporate. This the one last bastion that is trying to hold the bar high.TC

Ya, I've got some use for you, the yard needs mowing, the car needs washing, and I've got some dry cleaning to pick up.

some people just cannot resist being flame bait and fodder .............................................. scary thing is he is probably serious

Boy oh boy, more pilots working for low pay on a global scale. I would recommend that if you change your requirements to a cl65 or e145 type rating and experience working for $20 an hour, you would get a full boat in no time...

Like others have said, maybe you should fish where the fish are. In your case, since you are offering hotdogs, you should look for catfish... you know, bottom feeders.

Can only ex Mil USA jocks apply.?

This is a great indication of the market rate, for G5 and G550 pilots.

I am currently seeking G4, G5, G550 employment, but being a Brit in Europe, not such a great market base available.

The rate over here for G5, and G550 can be 1500$, but often down to 1000$.

I will work for either, but prefer 1500$....offers by PM.....
