I'm pretty sure DEET is dangerous and not allowed in the US (I could be wrong). Nevertheless, there are quite a number of countries that require some sort of bug killer to be sprayed before takeoff or upon arrival
Strong bug repelent can be a life saver in Africa.
My flight MX died from malaria after he worked all day on a reverser problem on the ramp in a place called Niami in Africa.
Many a times we had to wait 8 hours for fuel as we did not bribe the right people in Lagos. With the doors and hatches closed to keep mosquitos out, and with no APU or ground-air, we were rolling around in sweat aboard the plane while we were waiting.
DEET would be just fine if we could keep the doors open and get a breeze.
Yes, get all the shots ya can before leaving, all the companies I worked for have refunded every dollar for immunization. Also ya may need the record of shots to enter certain countries.
