Hi all,

I recently got furloughed from a major......LOL...big surprise!
Just wanted to know if I should include my F.E. time in my 'total time' for apps. Or should I just leave it as FE time and not include it in my 'total time'. Anybody have an answer.

Thanks.

That depends on how the company defines their 'total time' on the application.

Officially total time does include FE time, but FE time does not apply toward 'pilot time'.

If the application makes no distinction, include it. If there is a matrix of flight time to fill out, they'll probably have a separate column for FE time that isn't added into the total 'pilot time'.

As for the actual "logging" of the FE time, I just kept a separate logbook ( those cheap PPL logbooks you get at an FBO...sadly, I have 4 of those logs) entirely for it. That way I didn't have decide where it goes in my pilot logbook. When you have to put your quals down of paper, all the FE stuff stands alone and all you have to do is report FE time as such. How that part is done has been addressed previously by people who know more than I.

My understanding is that FE time is not part of a pilots total time. I logged my FE time in its own column in my log book. Way back when there were PFE's all over the majors they were initially mostly if not all mechanics. I doubt they could log the time as total pilot time when all they possessed was an FE ticket.

Well the Feds say you can count up to 500 hrs of F/E time toward your ATP. So I would consider it TOTAL time only. I also logged F/E in its own column but I also counted it toward total time as well.
I talked to a few old timers and they sugested logging in the same manner.
