Never go by a local FSDO opinion ONLY.

Check with the regional and national offices as well.

You can log SIC even if the autopilot is operative and the PIC is checked. If the DO DESIGNATES you as an SIC, then you are one.

Second, you can fly on the pt 91 legs and log PIC even without a high alt endorsement (not a good idea, though) becauase aacting as PIC and logging PIC are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. The FAA has ruled on this more than once.

Did you know that an instrument student can log PIC while being trained in actual conditions? Yep. Sole Manip, baby!!!

You can even log PIC on the REVENUE LEGS if you are sole manip. (must be type rated if type rating required).

No exceptions are given to this in the FARs.

This does not mean it is SMART or good for your career to log time this way. Many employers will look down on some of this. Many will not care. Take your best shot, log what you think is reasonable, and don't log time you shouldn't.

What is legal is not always safe, what is safe is not always legal.

Same deal with logging. What is legal may not be smart.
