Live on the news Express Jet ERJ-145 gear/tire problems

On the local news here in Dallas there is a Express Jet ERJ-145 that blew both tires on the left main gear on takeoff and there is nothing left I guess on the rim. Will be attempting a landing here shortly.......

ya im watching cnn about it and i hate the friggin news they cant report sh@t right. they even had the dude from the king videos as and aviation expert.

its such a non-event they booted it from tv for the local news.......

Heehee, well at least John King is more of an aviation expert than the folks they usually have on there.

Well now they are asking wether or not they will foam the runway.

Now they at least have a retired US Air pilot talking on CNN. No if the news anchor would stop interjecting is opinion and let the guy talk, I wouldn't be fighting the urge to throw soemtihng at the TV.

(now would be a good time to call your girlfriend, your wife, your chief pilot, then ALPA . . .in that order.)

No...call ALPA first. Put your girlfriend and you wife on confrence call and come clean with both of them, then thank God. After that, your Chief Pilot should be notified. Crew scheduling is leaving voicemails all the while to make sure you'll be available for your next turn.

I'm goign to write my name if I ever have an emergency that will have people pulling up the flight plan on flightaware.

Just goes to show, you never know when the real checkride is coming.

Obviously a good job and it worked out well; I am just kind of wondering why they didn’t use the thrust reversers. Without the tires you’re not going to want to use your brakes, but speed is certainly not your friend and using TR’s would slow you down and provide some stability and control.
Anyway, good to see it was uneventful in the end.

They used the RH TR only, for improved directional control.

Outstanding job, makes me proud to be an XJT pilot.

Great job guys! I'm totally jealous if you get to go on all the tv shows now that you're famous. Say hi to Kelly Ripa for me - I think she's hot. :)

make sure chautauqua gets that plane. What a crappy industry sometimes, Here these guys are faced with a situation which they delt with very well, and now at the end of the year, because they wont give up money and other things, they lose flying and maybe some of their jobs. I hope continental's ceo had his eyes glued to the tv during that one. Nice job express guys

So....where did the tires go? Were they immigrant tires and out on boycott?

So let me get this straight. If that had been a CHQ flight whether it be any of their codeshares, you would have been sitting in front of the TV cheering for a crash? Just so you can say, "Ha, I told you so...this industry sucks."? Way to go hero.

Congrats

Congratulations to the crew.

They did a good job. Nicely put down and there were no sparks or nothing. From the distance it even resembled a non event landing.

Cheers to you guys!!

The best part was the "expert" errr....I mean idiot on MSNBC who told the world that the tires blew because the brakes overheated during takeoff causing them to explode.

Now they're asking why not fly the entire route and deal with the problem in Minni

Because their cars are probably parked in Houston...

...thats what I'd do.
