Lightspeed Mach 1 headset in Boeing?

I just got hired at CAL and have searched the boards to find out what headset the best. I really don't want to deal with batteries and am almost sold on the Telex 850, but the Lightspeed looks like an option due to its light weight and, um, audio inputs....

Anybody use this in a Boeing and have an opinion? How long do the batteries last? Is it comfortable with sunglasses?

I have not had a probblem with the battery life but then again i hardly use the audio input. As far as the sunglasses they do not interfere at all. Dont know how they work in the boeing.

Why don't you stop by Fred Stankovich's office and ask him. Be sure to mention your desire to have an audio input. Let us know how it turns out.

They work great in the 737. Your battery will not run down unless you use your audio input. The battery is used for reducing the music by 70% when ATC or the intercom is used. I wondered the same about using it in a boeing. What are pilots doing with the other ear input? I use my right plug with the earpiece and mic. I just let the other side hang or tuck it under my eppilette. Any other suggestions???

As luck would have it, I spoke directly with a Lightspeed representative at the Aircraft Spruce Annual sale held 10/7/2006 in Corona. I tried on the Mach 1 and commented that I really didn't need the 2nd earpiece in an Airbus.

The rep told me that it hasn't been announced to the public at this time, but they'll be offering a single earpiece version for commercial pilots by late December or early January. He didn't have pricing info, but guessed it'd retail for around $400 +/-.

For what it's worth, the unit seemed well-constructed and high quality. I wouldn't want to deal with the extra earpiece, however, so I'll wait to see what the 'commercial' version looks like.

I guess I should have looked on their website to see if the rep was telling me the correct timeline. Obviously, he wasn't.

Oh well, I'm still not sure I'll take the plunge. A friend uses the Quiet Technologies version of the in-the-ear headset. It covers both ears and he's very happy with it. It's a little less money, too.

In all reality, I'll probably just keep using the Company-supplied Telex 750's. Heck, I already own a Telex 750 and I'm still too lazy to carry it around with me. What makes me think I'll carry around anything else...

All CAL airplanes come equipped with a headset. The company will give you an earpiece and ear plugs can be found in every weather room. Total Cost = 0. Given your future year's pay, you may want to focus on this price. And please, leave you MP3 player at home.
