The TSA is very close to completing the job that al Qaeda started, taking the finest air transportation system in the world and turning into a farce. It's treason, and it ought to be treated as such.

Why do I call it treason? Because not one of these "security measures" is going to stop a determined, professional terrorist organization from taking out more airplanes! The TSA is harming our industry in every way possible.

How much longer are we taxpayers and voters going to put up with this nonsense?

Very well stated!! I looked for, but was unable to find, any political action committee dedicated to reform of this embarassing government entity. This suprises me considering the number of politicians who were spouting off when the groping of female passengers singled out for pat-downs started. Ah well, politicians are, as usual, lots of talk and little action.

2 points, I am a HEAVY SMOKER and like it that way:

1. I thought matches were already banned. I had a book of matches taken at LGA a while back

2. What are we going to do about it? Bum matches everywhere after a long flight / day. I am not waiting to get to the hotel to find the bar closed and or the hotel does not give out matches for liability reasons. I will go nuckin futs.

Oh, one more.....
Mel, they check our **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** shoes and all else, and I agree with the other posts that all this security s*it, is just that, CRAP. If the gov. was so concerned about repeats of that Reid guy with his explosive sneakers, they should have banned them then. This is nothing more than pure crap.

I did hear however that matches do not show up on xray machines, and would probably not set off the metal detectors, especially if you remove the staple.

One previous post stated this will not last long..............but most of us didn't think alot of this a**nine security nonsense would last too. Metal detectors and xrays and explosive detectors are good ideas to stop a nut job, but I agree, this is completely out of hand.

Guys,
Just talked to a TSA Manager. CONGRESS made it so that lighters wont go. CONGRESS. TSA could care less he said. They think it will just anger people and take up time....

Congress or not...TSA is still annoying, useless, and overpaid. I spent 8 years acquiring ratings and certificates to make half of what a TSA screener makes with a GED. I know some of the Dip$hit$ they hired and they are not worth 40 60 and 80 K a year. It needs to stop. It is wasteful and our friggin government is clueless.

rant over

Wait another year or two and every passenger will have to travel in speedos and flipflops!!! :D

Buck

BAHAHAHAHA

TRUE
But at least some of the brass have their heads screwed on straight. The people upstairs are a good mix of Govt and Industry types. So at least when somethin happens six different agencies don't claim reponsibility.

And this ends my defense of the TSA...

Why wouldn't you be able to buy nail clippers? Nail clippers are specifically ALLOWED in carry on baggage.

http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/Permitted_Prohibited_12_18_2003.pdf

People have been repeating the anti-TSA hyperbole
for so long that every now believes that it's true.

Well that is good to know. But I remember an incident where I went thru screening and came out the other side and they asked to go thru my backpack (had my headset, GPS and charts, etc..)...they take out my Revlon nail clippers I bought at Longs Drugs that week. I never saw them again.

So...while a lot of people believe the hyperbole, so do some TSA screeners.

TSA is a joke and should go away.

I smell a conspiracy....

I heard from a friend who knows somebody in Washington that the Bic and Zippo lobbyists were under the gun to sell more lighters since less people are smoking and BANG! A brilliant idea! Ban all lighters at airports, the smokers will have to buy a new lighter every time they travel...this is brilliant.

I'm cashing in on this - I'm going to Wal-mart today and buying every lighter they have for .59 cents and then I'm going to set up a kiosk outside security and sell them for $5. What? You don't want to buy one cause you only need one smoke before you fly? No problem. I'll light your smoke for $1.

I'm gonna be rich. No more poor F.O. wages for me!

How much do you wanna bet that Bush will get some sort of a kick back from this? Anyone know about flying in Canada? Starting to sound pretty appealing.

I;m not going to defend the TSA or Bush. But seriously, how woul the President of the United states of America get money by banning lighters on airplanes?!?!

Maybe we could all start carrying magnifying glasses.

It'd be a beeyotch to light up a smoke with a magnifying glass on a cloudy day though. Or at night. On second thought, screw it.

Banning a source of fire is stupid. Hasn't anybody been watching Lost? Alive? Cast Away? And especially now that flares aren't required, we gotta do something. Maybe the government will let everybody carry guns so that if you wind up in the wilderness you could go ahead and kill yourself before a friggin' bear gets you. Brilliant.

just bum a light from the TSA guys who have lighters and matches inside the sterile area.

Perfect! That is so funny because it is so true. I'm sure all of those jokers have lighters beyond security.

Like how they all set off the metal detectors when they walk through them. I remember in the contract security days if one of them set it off they would have to go back and try again. Nowadays nothing. Anyone know why the change?

yet...

at CMH you can go in ANY of the little shops and buy nail clippers. yes, this is after the security checkpoint. i still have no idea how i could take someone out with nail clippers...

You don't know how anyone could take someone out with nail clippers?

Obviously, you've never heard the threat:

BACK OFF... OR YOU'LL GET A MANICURE!!!

If you just stare at them dumbfounded, then that's just asking for a pedicure!

Feel threatened, punk?

Gentlemen and ladies, to beat the system you have to be smarter than the system.

http://consumerpay.com/wp/store9/9999-1927/prwp01-lighter.htm

Of course, with Barn runnin' the show and Andy out of town in Raleigh, they'll want to take these too, "just to be safe".

Great product, I actually have one and love it but: according to the dumb tsa:

"All lighters will be banned from sterile areas beyond security checkpoints at airports. This includes, for example, butane, absorbed-fuel (Zippo-type), electric/battery-powered and novelty lighters.

This is totally a smoking thing from congress
