We've had a couple of words and phrases that got "snatched" off the list at work recently... One referred to that component on the side of an electrical motor where the leads enter the motor housing, formerly called a pecker head. Can't use that one any longer.

Also had a supervisor who had to watch how he talked on the radio. His last name is Bender. He *used* to reply to calls with , "Bender, over." Can't say that on the radio any more either.

Actually Jafar, I have to thank you for posting the link to this article on the use of the word "niggardly".

Main Entry: nig·gard·ly
Pronunciation: -lE
Function: adjective
Date: 1571
1 : grudgingly mean about spending or granting : BEGRUDGING
2 : provided in meanly limited supply
synonym see STINGY
- nig·gard·li·ness noun
- niggardly adverb

There was a situation recently, where this exact word came up. I will be refering to this link you posted, on tuesday.

While I don't advocate the use of the N word in a hate related manner (keep in mind I got most of ICE-T's albums and a few of NWA's albums also...and they use the N word quite a bit in them, as do quite a few black comedians), at the same time, I don't relish the thought of banning the word BIGGER, DIGGER, RIGGER or FIGURE. All of which could be missheard, but used in proper context.

Tuesday, huh?

Just for the sake of suspense?

Well I pateintly await Tuesday!

Yeah, the forum english instructor got me on my first use of "Pinko." What can I say, I was pissed. But the second post I spelled it correctly.

No excuse, I'm poor at spelling. I'm a math major, what do I care about spelling!

Thanks for squaring me away, though ;)

I'm no English instructor...I just knew how to spell pinko. No biggie.

You don't have to wait till tues...there was an incident at work with the same word. Could have been a nasty bugger if it had gone the wrong way. It's my co worker that has to wait till tuesday, to read YOUR posted link to that news story. That's when I'll see him next. That's all.

Oh... I see. I misunderstood.

Well it sounds like it turned out for the best for him. But like you said, it could have gone south. Tell us some more details about it. I'd like to hear how it all went down.

guy a was securing his plane.

guy b walks by with guy c, stops to chat with guy a.

guy a has this tendancy to bring out unprofessional behavior in other people.

guy b tells guy a, that in regards to his professionalism, that his picture is posted with the definition of the word niggardly, in the dictionary.

guy a and guy c, who's hearing and perceptual filters are modulated by simple and soft brains, use their selective hearing and only hear the N word being spoken. There are people of color working at unloading the plane and are 10 feet away. The conversation is not that loud as to over come the sound of the conveyor, the tug and other planes operating nearby.

Guy b, realizes that guy a brings out the unprofessional, in people and realizes his faux pas, terminates the conversation and walks in with his gear to turn in his paperwork.

none of the rampies hears any of this. Guy C, never says another word about the situation, but walked away thinking guy b said the N word.

guy a, who also thought the N word was used, doesn't give up and for days thinks he has something on guy b, that can cost him his job. Guy a eventually gets a dictionary thrown at his fat face, while in a part of the country where the discusion is not going to upset anybody or be over heard by management.

guy b, decides to put a lid on using that word, just because it could cause some confusion.

I absolutely LOVE how you fools try to use the term "Right-Wing" as some sort of insult.

I wear my right-wing status like a badge of honor.

I can't help it if we're right. It is the leftists that continue to demonize us as racists and chauvanists. This can't be helped. We just have to trust the sane among us to see the truth for what it is.

The conservative agenda is winning, of course. Why else would the libs all be screaming like stuck pigs?

-Just another conservative Christian (Another title I am proud of)

That makes me want to say something, but it isn't politically correct, and I may offend someone.

Oh, what the heck.

"Amen".

I just assumed, 100LL was replying to the other thread on this same topic...so I just shined it on. It didn't seem to fit, as nobody was talking like or about being right wing.
