Has anyone ever brought in a union?
We did and it is night and day. When every other department was affected by pay, sick time, and work rule changes, we remained status quo.
In the grand scheme of things, unions do nothing to help capitalism, as they are an inpediment to corporate efficiency. But put things into perspective, do you work for capitalism or yourself.
As with any decision in corporate America everything is a business decision. The same goes with bringing in a union. It's simply a business decision. We made it because it made sense for us.
Should we be shunned because we made a decision in our interest and not one in the company's?
A company can and should still be profitable with unions. If the contracts put them out of business, then management negotiated poorly.
Ensuring the middle-class has more money is a good thing for the economy in a macro sense. It is just that individually, companies don't benefit by paying more to there middle-class workers, but collectively they do. Therefore in a capitalist sociecty, unions actually play a good role of ensuring future strength in the economy. Because once the wealth gets collected to one side of the spectrum the economy will decline.
