Leave Alpa?

Is there a way to leave alpa or are we forced to be members at gunpoint since they just take their 2% anyway?

Flame bait.

there are always a few

you know who the first guys to run to ALPA when the "f" something up are the guys that talk crap about them. ALPA should leave their asses in the wind to deal with the company and the FAA on thier own.
perhaps these ALPA haters can go to the company and work out their own contract as individuals, since they haven't done us any good right... good luck with that. they can't really see the good in unions... 2% rule.

Hey, we haven't talked about BBQ lately. How about it? Any good BBQ joints to report to the rest of us?
jacks stack at 22nd and wyandotte in downtown kansas city makes some killer bbq chicken. highly recommended.

I still love Interstate in the MEM airport. IMHO, the best airport BBQ out there.

BBQ in MN sucks outside or in the airport...

In MEM the best is The BBQ Shop on Madison and Idlewild. Great food and hot sauce too!

Jim's in BHM, TCL has the original 'Dreamland'.....

Hoser

Montgomery Inn, North of CVG is the very best BBQ on the planet. The US Air Force spent millions testing BBQ joints (justification for cross country flights) and you can't argue with the results. Pick up a bottle of sauce.

the hard way, get a petition to get a vote to vote alpa off property.
the easy way, quit and get a job where alpa isn't at.

Alpa has its uses, though I do have to agree that the forced "union shop" join or you can't work here isn't right. I'd like to choose to be a member not be told you have to be. That goes for any job where there is a union not just Alpa.

A contricting post...

The choice is completely with the individual...

not exactly contradicting.
the way it is, compared to my own personal belief on the option that SHOULD be available.

I personally would remain a member, I think there are good things about Alpa, not everything, but some.... Would I like to see changes, absolutely. Anyone who doesn't has thier head in the sand.

You can't have it both ways...

If you don't want to pay union dues then don't apply or remain employed by an union carrier.

You not "forced" into an union shop. Sure it may be a "tough" choice, but a choice nonetheless...

Forced is when you have no choice. Let's look at the dictionary:

forced
adj.
  1. Imposed by force; involuntary
You are not being forced to be a member. You are choosing to be a member. It is not your right to work for a carrier configured the way you want it.

It is the same as saying, one is being forced to fly the airbus at Jetblue. If one doesn't want to fly an airbus then bid the EMB or don't apply/quit.

Everyone makes choices and weighs the pros and cons....

But, the "I am being Forced" doesn't cut it...

I'm fairly sure you can choose not to be a member, but you still have to pay dues ("contract maintenance") since you would still be working under a CBA negotiated by ALPA.

I look forward to every BNA turn for the BBQ place by the Airways gates...

What other airports have BBQ in them?!?!?!?

HOU, AUS has some pretty good BBQ. Can't remember if SAT has any. There is NOTHING better than Texas Brisket BBQ:cool: . You gotta go into the hill county in TX to get the best. This pulled pork stuff is nasty.

Does anyone know the answer to his question?

Here's your link if you want to go through with it.

Not really worth it in my opinion, even if your union sucks donkey balls. You can be in a union shop at an airline, and be a non-dues paying member, but you have to pay a "maintence fee" that covers the cost of ALPA (for example) to negotiate your contract (and ONLY that).

However, ALPA gets away with charging a "maintence fee" that is exactly equal to your union dues. Funny how that works out, eh?

And until Congress passes laws that force full disclosure of how your dues are spent, good luck proving otherwise.

If your MEC Secretary/Treasurer can't tell you how your dollar is spent, you should recall him/her. They should be willing and happy to walk you through the finances of the union. I know ours is happy to open the books and take the time to show what happens to anyone who is interested.
