Any tips on good ways to learn/study flows for PF and PNF?
So far I am taking one or two at a time, til I have it down cold, then move on to another one.

Chair fly.

The best way is to sit in front of the cockpit poster (if a paper trainer is not available) and just touch the switches called for in the checklist. It creates a muscle memory. Just keep doing it until you're comfortable with it.

Tape the cockpit posters up on your wall and plant your rear in a chair until you got them cold.

For call outs and checklist responses get with your sim parter and just repeat them till you both have it down. It comes pretty quick.

Once completed, move to the bar and enjoy a beverage!

Cockpit mock-up and repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition.

Sorry, that was probably annoying. :(

Do one till you can do it no problem, then go on to the next one.

Physically walk out the traffic pattern in your hotel room while juggling something like a hotel sized bottle of shampoo.

Tape the posters to the wall
Put your chair in front of them
Put the manual within easy sight
Take small post-its and number them and position them in the proper order on the posters
Start going through the flows and actually touching the item in the flow in order and saying it's name out loud

Repeat and repeat and never not finish a flow
Stay disciplined and methodical

You'll learn even the most difficult flows faster than you would imagine.

Remember, the brain retains information faster if it also hears what you're doing. Practice with your partner. It'll be a snap.

Good luck!

Or just skip step one and go straight to the bar.

No more so than usual. :D

I only yoking!

Thanks for the tips! I will have a fun weekend practicing them!!
Is there any truth to either using a yoyo or bouncing a ball on the wall while doing flows to get the bod in the mode of multitasking while doing flows? Heard from a few people this helps for when you are in the sim.

Don't know about yoyos and bouncing balls but you won't know them as well in the sim as you do at home. I am in 777 trng right now and can fly the back of my door with my eyes shut. I get in the sim and the 737 flows start taking over my left arm. I also reach for a paper checklist every time.

It will come to you soon enough. I would give at least equal attention to call outs and checklist responses.

I'd day no about the yo-yo and ball thing.

At this point in your career you can probably multi-task, It is hard at first, but it will come.

I've seen people use two basic ways to successfully learn them.

Method 1: Make an acronym for each flow (like GUMPS). Memorize the acronyms, then learn the flows on a poster or mockup.

Method 2: Using a mockup, touch each item in order while counting 1..2...3..4... etc. Don't worry about why you are touching each item. Just repeat the pattern while counting until you can do it quickly without thinking. Then go back and learn what you are doing with each item.

Note: The key is not to try to learn the whole flow in detail all at once. Break it down into a simple memorization first (acronym or muscle memory). Once you solidly have that, only then should you try to understand why you're doing what you're doing.
