First off, I apologize for not having specifics. I was listening to Laura Miller (Dallas mayor, DFW board member, staunch defender of the Wright Amendment) on the radio this morning (the Mark Davis show, 820 AM), and she kinda dropped a bombshell. She said she was fighting the Wright Amendment with the hope of a LCC coming to DFW (she specifically mentioned AirTran or AmWest) to take 20 or so gates and compete with AA. She said that the final word is in: they're not coming. (It was implied but not stated that this was due to the fact that they couldn't compete head on with AA in DFW). Then she said that she had let the 'interested parties' know that she was 'giving a lot of thought' to the matter, and that her position 'could be changing.' She refused to be more specific than that.
Considering how vocal and rigid she's been, it seems to me that it would be a pretty big victory for SWA if she started to support them. It also seems to me that that would leave precious few defenders of the Wright Amendment.
This all made it seem like quite a scoop to me, but there's no transcript of the show or link to post, so it's all just my recollection. Sorry.
