patq1, are you for real?
osx has been running on intel for more than a year now. You can even download a developers copy at www.piratebay.org. Did you see the macworld video that was put out yesterday? http://macworld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/mw/index.html

Apple released 2 mac running on intel cpus. Yes they are now PCs and yes you could install windows on them. Did you read the news. Did you see the stock price. From Steve jobs himself: 2 to 3 times faster than the G5. The new laptop is 4 to 5 times faster than the g4 powerbooks. Please before you post something, make sure you know what you are talking about.

As far as knowing what you are talking about, I will suggest the same thing to you. Yes OSX is running on intel processors(I saw Steve Jobs keynote) in the new Imac and MacBook. However, that doesn't mean windows will run on these intel macs. In fact all reports so far say that it won't, at least not without a lot of work. The new Intel Macs use EFI instead of BIOS. Windows XP 32bit does not support EFI at this time, so booting Windows XP may not be possible directly. I'm sure someone will figure it out but it doesn't work right now. If you want to find out more check out the message boards on the support page of Apple.com and Macrumors.com. As I've previously stated, I don't care what the processor is as long as it works. And yes it would be nice to be able to boot windows on my mac(on the very rare occasion that I actually have to use a windows app) without using VirtualPC. I may be no expert, but I'm not as clueless as you think I am.

Thanks,

Pat

kinda like flightinfo, even has the constant bickering of the dell vs alienware vs apple fanboys aka the regionals forum...

I just bought a dell 9300 fully loaded for around 1500. It is really not intended for constant travel, but it will "own" any apple when it comes to gaming. Also I decided to go with the 17in lappy because a 15.4 really isn't all that much more portable when you compare them to their larger brothers. If any kind of gaming is your thing, I would highly recommend the 9300 or XPS from dell. If you are more of a casual user who really doesn't know or for that matter want to know about computers (use it for web surfing, email, watching dvds), I would highly recommend an apple. A pc will require more attention from time to time (reformatting, antivirus, etc.) but for what I use my laptop for, it is well worth it. (running 'ableton live', and gaming) Don't get into the hype of apple is better than pc and vice versa - for many people apple is a superior computer, for others a pc can do much more. I highly recommend checking out notebookforums though, you will be sure to learn a ton...

Does anyone like the Dell 700m. Good,Bad??? Thoughts
I have one and I love it. I have had it for just over a year. The only problem I have with it is one of the letters (H) on the keyboard is loose.

Dell has a good support. The problem is you have to speak to someone in Bombay who is reading something that is suppose to fix your computer. Once you exhaust their options they eventually transfer you to someone in the US who can actually help. I know this because I had a problem gettting my wireless router to work in my house. It took about 2 hours to get it straight. Good thing it was a 800 number.

I just got a Think pad for my new job. Doesnt have all the expensive crap but gives me something to do when im up in A bum #$%K airport

Concur! I've had Sager laptops since '98, and never looked back. However, I think this guy wasn't looking for a Desktop replacement, and I'm not so sure their lower priced ones are that great of a deal.
I *love* my 9880S, though! 17" Widescreen, 2GB ram, room for 2 hd's (I have a 100 and a 60 GB installed at the moment), 256mb NVidia GeForce Go 6800 video, etc etc... Downsides: It's running a P4 processor, so battery life is dismal. Plus, it's heavy!!! I'm almost always plugged into the outlet, so battery life isn't that important to me, and it being heavy is a price I'm willing to pay for what I'm getting :)
If you're looking for a desktop replacement, I'd definitely suggest taking a look at Sager's :)

Just make sure you buy something that can download porn in a somewhat expeditious manner..........that extremely important on layovers.

Another Thinkpad fan here. I've owned several Dell's and this thing is built like a tank. My second choice was the Asus W3v. A little bit pricey, but it will handle anything you throw at it and also built to withstand torture.

I will also second (or third) notebookreview.com. I did a lot of research there before making my purchace.
