Naw man, he put the jacket on the chair at their table, facing away from my table but adjacent to my table. Got it? Ok. I'll definitely be more careful in the future. Having grown up in a small town in upstate NY, I'm pretty naive when it comes to stuff like that. I'm learning though!

CFIcare: Yes, I had a specific rider for computer equipment, up to $2000 for an additional $15/year. There's no deductible and it will be replaced with like and similar equipment, replacement cost. I've provided all proof of ownership to the agent. She'll put out requests to three computer dealerships for a "like" replacement and reimburse me for the lowest cost one after we discuss/agree. It was a 2 Ghz P4 with 64M integrated video, 14" screen, 1GB RAM and a 7200 rpm 60 GB HD. I've ordered a custom ASUS setup from http://istnc.com/store/categories.php?cat=22
They seem like a good group of people and I think I'll be getting the most bang for the buck with them.

Oh, and BTW, if having chlamydia is anywhere near as bad as being tested for it (involves a swab insertion), I think that may be a suitable punishment for them...

or you can boot from a floppy and bypass the system, you'll be in dos though. Best way is to encrypt your important files

No. Without the BIOS password, you can't boot anything (that's the whole point). But as other posters mentioned, you can remove the hard drive or discharge the BIOS CMOS to reset the password if you want to do a little work.

Encrypt the stuff you want to protect.

Depends on the OS. It's built into Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Check the on-line help topic for EFS (Encrypting File System).

All great advice, the goal is the protection of your personal data.
I insure all my laptops through a specialist company, I pay $ 120 bucks a year which covers me for full replacement cost of my laptop to a value of $ 2500.
I did this for a multitude of reasons, dropping it while commuting, the TSA break it by dropping it while trying to sniff you for alcohol, the list goes on of which theft is obviously one of them.

here's a thought.....

Do a quick search under Ebay and see if it shows up. I have heard of people stealing stuff to resell on Ebay. Just recently a woman fouund her house broken into and found her stuff for sale on Ebay. After some quick police work the crook was captured and she got her stuff back.
