Anything new at Great Lakes? I heard that management and union had reached a TA, but haven't heard any results yet.
Thanks for the info.

Not sure, if anything it would be a $.50 raise max. I think they plan on hiring again soon though.

They have reached a TA only because the pilot group is going to hopefully 100% vote it down.

3% raise, a joke, should be voted down 100%. New hires started Nov. 1, some are doing IOE now. Another class started Dec. 1.

I left Lakes in October and I was wondering what was happening. A friend of mine still there also mentioned the 3% pay increase (a true insult). I've heard that there was a huge wave of attrition in Oct/early Nov that was going to take a few new-hire classes to fill. I haven't heard anything about Upgrade classes but I would think there must be some soon.

In fairness, I will say that despite the low pay and some of the games, I did enjoy my time at GLA. The 1900D is a fun plane to fly and given the area that Lakes operates in, you get a wealth of experience that other regionals can't match. So if you can stomach the (lack of) pay, GLA is probably about the fastest route to Part 121 turbine PIC time. Plus, you'll make a lot of friends with such a small pilot group.

They're taking resumes, but don't have any posted minimums ... what were their last minimums?
I think they were looking for closer to 1000 TT with an unknown amount of multi. But a HUGE factor is having a current Laker pilot walk your stuff in - in that case, they may take less time. Back in the day (pre-9/11), a friend of mine did that for me and they put me in class with 534 TT and 130 multi. I don't think they'll quite do that these days unless you are already a GLA employee.

Wrapped in this story are some details about the contract and the Lakes mgt thought process...

Post from

Ok... so the company financials came out on Nov 13th.
If you want to look for yourself
http://biz.yahoo.com/e/041112/glux.ob10-q.html

I decided to see what kind of burden we would be putting on the
company to get some real pay raises and work rules.

For the preceding 9 months ending Sept 30th the company, after taxing
itself (you know the Voss tax), still posts that it has turned a
profit of $4,135,000 to date.

This figure comes while posting a CASM for this period of 22.9cents.

So lets take a round number. Lets say per hour I want to see no less
than a $10/hr raise for each crew at GLA (So lets say $5 for Cappie
and $5 for Flappy Operator.) Assuming we only operate 1900's which
isn't true but makes crunching numbers easier (and CASM should be on
average lower for the EMB) GLA claims that it costs $870.00 to
operate 200NM, which is pretty close to an hour. This would mean that
we would cause the Hourly cost to rise to 880.00/hr, it would drive
the CASM up .2631cents (that's right not even a whole penny) to bring
the overall CASM to 23.161cents... That means our burden to raise our
payrates across the boards by $5 is 1.1%..

So Voss starts shaking his head, "It cant be done! They will break
this place!" That means he will have to pass that off to our paying
customer b/c he will not stand for letting that come out of the
$5,513,333 profit the company should see for the year ending 2004.
Being forced to come up with the money would affect the bottom line
by $1,012,500/yr for 225 pilots to get a $5/hr raise.. So in 2004
Company profits would now be $4,500,833, and Voss is a slave to his
shareholders and can't sleep at night thinking of this (lol). So he
passes this on to the paying customer.. His bean counters say, well
with a load factor of 41.0% each fare will need to increase by 2.68%.

So revised fares come out:
Round trip (from greatlakesav.com dept Dec 1, returning Dec 8)
CYS-DEN-CYS was$129 now$132.45
GJT-DEN-GJT was$184 now$188.93
SAF-DEN-SAF was$258 now$264.91
HYS-DEN-HYS was$212 now$217.68
and this increase continues for all the city parings....

Now Voss can rest comfortably again as he defended his stockholders
and maintained the profitability they are growing used to.

This little Diddy is actually based on fact as to why we should vote
no to the silly contract, with no work rules and unfair pay. Vote no
and tell our Teamsters and our company we are better than MESA and
should not be paid less and treated worse.

There were very few female Lakers when I left in October.

Nope, all the ladies have moved on to other places.

I think Rex said the mins were 750TT and 100multi... however that is not hard and fast at all (with a Laker letter of Rec, or you live locally, or you have a pulse and no bad auroma j/k)

Quick upgrades with the planned expansion, however if they don't do something to sweeten the pot after the TA is voted down by 95% that will halt things in about 30 days...

Very interesting. Not surprising to hear that the few female pilots left have moved on.

As for the minimums, I'm glad to hear that they aren't as absurdly high as they had been at one point under the previous CP. And I still don't believe that hours in a logbook necessarily relate directly to competency in a 121 cockpit. Been there as a low-time newbie and also as a captain with a high-time F/O that nearly killed me.

What kind of expansion is going on?? Did the cheap-skate finally get off some money??
