A funny thing about de-regulation. It seems that only the employees were de-regulated. Almost a govt; sponsered form of union busting from the start. Kind of like all of those politicians who swear that shipping jobs over seas is good for America but continually vote themselves pay raises. Or the one's who thump their chests and say stick it out in Iraq but never found the time to serve themselves.
 
The unique part of the industry is that by having the union forces you do, you cannot go to another airline and do anything but start over. When they come for concessions, it would be nice like other jobs to have the ability to change companies if it would allow you to keep your pay level. Not so in this business.
The sad fact is that if you are in that position, usually you are in a company that failed. Pretty simple, they failed and you are forced to start over.
Likewise there is a value for the work so to speak. Unfortunately this is not related to profits. UPS in particular has a huge company and the fact is that losing all the aircraft would not kill the company.
