I would like to know if Ameristar, USA Jet, Kalitta, Murray are allowed to jumpseat 121 carriers.

And also what are their first year pay as an FO?

Kalitta AIr does for sure. Charters does on some not on others. Although I know an FO at charters that has j/s to Japan, Europe, the carribean etc. He arranges his time off so he has a few chances to make sure it works.-kingaira90

I'm pretty sure USA Jet is able to jumpseat on quite a few carriers.

I have heard Ameristar has a couple agreements and that Kalitta does too.

No idea about Murray. If you are on the 121 side, I'm sure it wouldn't be too tough.

Murray has j/s privilages with NWA

Kalitta Charters is actually interviewing right now. Although the boat probably already sailed on this round. To find out about pay on Kalitta Charters, I posted the whole deal in another thread not too long ago, so do a search.-kingaira90

Just remember this years down the road. Once you have entered the Scum bag World of YIP....you will NEVER be the same person. Once YIP is in your blood it will stay in your blood. It's like AID's...you cant get rid of it. It will haunt you the rest of your life !!!!!

Most people come through YIP twice in their careers, the first time is on the way up and the second is on their way down.

The Truth

Ain’t that the truth, my first job after leaving the Navy in 1977 was Trashcan at YIP and it looks like my last job will be USA Jet at YIP.

Okay so I did a search and looks like Kalitta Charters pay $250/week.
So you make $1000/month? That seems a little low...
Can someone confirm this?

What about Ameristar and Murruay Air?

I worked for Ameristar a couple of years ago, guarantee pay for Falcon and Learjet FO was 2000 a month, milage over 10,500 was .05 per mile, and perdiem was 36. a day.

Scedule was 10 on 4 off, once you leave YIP don't plan on seeing it again for 10 days.

If they needed you to work on your days off and you wanted to, the pay was 200. per day.

All of that info is over 2 years old, things may be different now.

yep, the first 6 mo is tough. Although if you get some passenger/ambo flights you can easily add a few hundred bucks extra to that, in wait time. I also get paid to update a set of international jepps ($50 wk), although there is only so much of the extra work. So you kind of have to luck out/ be first in line to get assigned what is available. And per diem is $1.50 hr. So another $36 a day on the road (I don't eat $36 a day in food so it is actually some extra money). Then if you volunteer on your time off, and you get called. As an F/O you get $75 a day volunteer pay, and if you are earning mileage you get straight miles guarantee is disregarded.

Still not a king’s ransom. After a year is when the F/O money gets considerably better. Mileage really kicks in then. Of course only if things are busy do you make really good money.-kingaira90

I know guys here that made 40K their first year. Although I won't come near it. Look at the average pay for first and second year from that other post, that will give you a better idea of pay than just looking at the monthly pay.

You will make more money first year at ameristar. If you have a family and like to see them (and they relocate to yip too), then you will have a better QOL then any other on demand operator I know of. With the ambo/passenger trips, you get billed roundtrip. So you come home. The longest I have been on the road is 4 days, and that was only once. Longer is possible but not common.

Kingair90, you are something else! In another thread you have the balls to say you are glad to hear about my former employer being shut down because they have a bad reputation. Now, you are defending the fact that YOU are flying for $1000 a month. Ya gotta be kidding me, I can't believe people like you accept jobs flying aircraft for such horrible pay. I wasn't gonna say anything about your previous off-color remark, but coupled with your ignorant defense of crap wages I had to say something.

See my next post for past post reference.

As for flying for $1000 a month, my attempt in the above post was to say the opposite. Guess I was too complicated. Only time you will make the straight $1000 is during the first 6mo and still in training, even then you get per diem on trips. After training is done you make more, depending on what kind of trips you get. The average for the first year f/o is low to mid 20's, second year f/o mid 30's. I have been with the company 7mos and I am making around 2k month now.-kingaira90

I found it, Planet Airways. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. I guess it was bad form to dance on the grave. I have not seen anything good about them from someone other than mgt. Also QOL is about a lot more than just pay, in my opinion. Maint, time with the family, if mgt backs you up, advancement within the company, good or hostile work environment, and pay.-kingaira90

No worries man, it just really sucks to be on the street. Planet had quite the reputation, but I have also never met a pilot who didn't b!tch about his job. I liked the job, it definitely wasn't perfect but the flying was great, and the pay was good. I understand your position, QOL is much more important to me than pay, but I am also worth more than 25k year. That is one reason I quit flying for the regionals, and even then I could live where I wanted and had a set schedule (along with a union and CBA). I just can't comprehend the QOL obtained living in YIP on 15min call out, making $1000/mo. Sure you can make a little more than that by busting your hump, but a base salary of $12,000yr is ludicrous. Anyway, I am done ranting. It just sucks to see this industry being flushed down the toilet, especially since I have 35yrs of flying left. I wouldn't wish a furlough/lay off on anybody, regardless of who they work for. Be glad your company is still in business, the car industry isn't doing so hot these days. Cheers.

Man, I didnt realize the truth of this until you articulated it they way you just did.

Is there a doctor in the house!

Does anybody have the antidote, please!

I agree. In my too short career I have been with 2 companies that folded (basically the same one 2x). I should have thought through my comments more.

We do fly a lot of auto parts when that end of things is swinging. Luckily all of the lears have convertable interiors, so when the autoparts slow the passenger and air ambo stuff can take up some slack. In my past 2 rotations I flew 1 cargo trip, and about 9 ambo/passenger trips.

Most jobs are about what you make it. Good luck in your job search.-kingaira90

This thread could not be tailor made for me more. Youngsters LISTEN UP!!! Go to the commuters. Do not get lured into the fast upgrade and early money at YIP. ALL that will come later. That place ( as stated in a previous post ) will ruin you for the real world of flying professionally. Every operator there is DUBIOUSE. You will experience a way of life that WILL turn you into A COMPLETE DIRT BAG!

Days off kids

Funny thing about this thread and a bit of YIP bashing , I was having dinner with an old Zipper buddy last night. He now works work union scheduled air carrier. He was lamenting about how much time he spends away from home compared to his on-demand days at YIP. In the old days he did all his chores, lawn mowing, house painting, etc during his pager time. Then ono his days off , he took trips, vacations, realy enjoyed days off. Now he spends his days off, lawn mowing, house painting, etc. He is home about 13 days a month, at Zipper he was about 25 days a month. Do not listen to vortex, he is the dark side, come to YIP, it is a fantastic place to start or finish your career.
